Pruning of pine: the formation of the crown. How to Plant a Pine Tree

Formation and pruning of pine trees are often carried out to give it a decorative appearance, since this plant is considered one of the most popular for creating landscape design. Correctly designed crown will look very neat. In addition, pruning helps to rejuvenate the tree. This is quite a laborious and laborious work, but it must be done regularly.

What is the pruning of pine for?

Pine is a fairly unpretentious plant, but it requires proper care and timely pruning. With the help of pruning, you can give the plant a different decorative appearance and make it a real garden ornament. For the rejuvenation of the plant, only sanitary trimming of the lower branches of the pine, as well as dry and diseased shoots, is performed to preserve the tree healthy.

It is undesirable for the height of the tree to exceed 180 centimeters. Pruning is best done when the height of the pine reaches one and a half meters. If the crown grows very much, then it will be difficult to cut it. In addition, if you remove too many green branches, the plant may die.

How is pruning and shaping of pine?

Regardless of the reason for cutting pine, ways to shorten branches to contain growth are common, namely:

  • Thinning the crown;
  • Shortening or pinching;
  • Stretching branches.

Crown thinning involves removing branches completely or partially to remove excess shoots or to give the desired shape. Shortening or pinching involves the removal of part of the shoot. Basically, this procedure is carried out in late May or early June. Stretching branches involves fixing the branches in a certain position.

Pruning pine should be carried out not earlier than the next year after planting the seedling. Do not cut more than 30% of the total amount of green mass at a time. Carry pruning in clothing, which can then be discarded, since the resin that is allocated by coniferous trees is not removed.

After finishing the trimming procedure, trees need to be provided with appropriate care. It is necessary to make fertilizing, mineral fertilizers, and also to ensure high-quality watering.

Decorative pruning

Decorative pruning of pine helps to give the tree a more beautiful and well-groomed appearance. Plants with a decorative crown are ideal for setting up a hedge, as well as decorating the alley.

Carry out pruning best in cloudy days to prevent the appearance of dark spots on the needle, which occur when the liquid evaporates strongly. Decorative pruning is carried out in such a way that the crown retains an even pyramidal outline. Thanks to properly trimmed, the tree will look more spreadable and fluffy, becoming the real decoration of the cottage area.

Formation of pine in the style of Nivaki

When forming the crown of a pine in the style of Nivaki, you must leave an odd number of branches in each tier. It is also necessary to thin the branches at the base of the trunk, and along the perimeter to leave growing sprouts, removing the central, largest candle, and the remaining shoots just a little pinch.

After carrying out this procedure, the branch should resemble a triangle located in the same plane. As you grow, you need to continue forming the tree, leaving only healthy and large shoots, slightly bending and fixing them to get the desired result.

Pruning and shaping bonsai

Japanese pine trimming is carried out from the second year of tree growth. The trunk of a mature pine can not be formed, since the branches will only break down. The tree tolerates the pruning well, but it should be done very carefully and not more than once a year.

Formation of the crown for bonsai is carried out with the help of wire. It is best to do this in late autumn, when the tree is least active. For this, the branches are bent to the sides and firmly fixed. To give the pine a desired appearance, you need to remove the extra kidneys every year. Given that the upper buds grow much faster, you need to remove most of the upper kidneys, leaving the lower ones.

It is necessary to pluck out the needles, as this promotes the penetration of air to the inner branches and shoots. In addition, it allows you to control the width and height of the pine. The plucking of needles is carried out from the middle of summer until late autumn.

To refine the tree, you need to periodically cut the needles to reduce their length. Pruning is carried out at the end of summer on a fully formed tree.

Pruning pine for rejuvenation

One of the tasks of tree trimming is its rejuvenation. Remove too old, dry and diseased branches to induce slumbering buds to more active growth. It is important to trim the branches in such a way that the needles remain on them, otherwise they will just dry out.

Pruning for the rejuvenation of pine trees is carried out every three years. Thanks to this procedure, the tree will look good and will take up much less space.

The best time to trim

In order to trim the pine tree did not harm the plant, it is necessary to carry out all the required procedures at a certain time. In spring, pruning is carried out to form a compact apex. Work to remove dry and diseased branches is carried out at any time.

In the period of active vegetation, which runs from the middle of summer to the end of winter, it is better not to disturb the tree. To stop the growth of the crown and shoots, the branches are shortened after the growth of the candles. It is necessary to cut off shoots in early spring.

To correct the length of young shoots, you can carry out autumn pruning, but remember that only small branches can be removed. During the trimming, the temperature should be at least 5 degrees, since otherwise the cut will freeze, which will lead to the death of the plant.

Planting of coniferous tree

Many are interested in how to plant a pine tree, and when it should be done. Optimum time for planting seedlings is considered to be spring or autumn. At a later planting, the tree simply does not have time to adapt to the new conditions and prepare for the winter or dry summer, as a result of which the seedling may die.

It is important to choose the correct seedlings of pine, they should be with a closed root system in containers. The main advantages of such seedlings is that they:

  • Have a well developed root system;
  • Protected from damage;
  • The roots retain the microorganisms required to absorb mineral substances and moisture from the soil.

The bacteria necessary to the tree live on the roots and perish in the open air in just a few minutes. Do not choose too large seedlings of pine, as the younger the plant, the faster it will be able to adapt to new conditions. The optimum age of the seedlings is 5 years.

To plant a plant, you need to choose well-lit, sunny areas or partial shade. A tree planted in the shade develops much worse, and also has a sparse crown. When preparing the pit for landing, you need to focus on the size of the container. The groove should be 15-20 cm larger in diameter and 20-30 cm deep.

Pine poorly tolerates stagnant water, which is why, if groundwater is located close to the soil surface, then in the landing deepening it is necessary to make a drainage layer of gravel or expanded clay (about 5-10 cm in height). The drainage layer needs to be covered with enriched mineral substances.

The tree must be carefully pulled out of the container and placed in a pre-prepared groove, trying to maintain the integrity of the earthy coma. It is best to plant the plant slightly above the soil level, with the expectation that the soil will still be planted. The space around the sprout needs to be slightly compacted and covered with fertile soil. Then make a small groove for irrigation, so that water does not spread over the surface. Immediately after the planting, the tree needs to be watered and sprinkled with the germ. Knowing how to plant a pine tree, you can beautifully arrange a garden with the use of these evergreen plants, which are easy to form and prune.
