Professional Snooker Player Steve Davis: Biography

Steve Davis - professional player in snooker (billiards), for a long time was world famous for his brilliant technique.

General biography

Davis is an ordinary English family man, who spent his whole life on improving the skills of snooker. And, of course, zeal did not go wrong: Steve Davis - one of the most famous players in snooker around the world. Participated in competitions since 1978, and decided to finish his career in 2016. The man was awarded numerous awards, and in 2016, the biographies of Davis and his friend Alex Higgins, who also became a legend in the world of billiards, filmed a film called The Rack Pack. In 2011, Steve became one of the members of the Snooker Hall of Fame.

A family

It was no accident that Davis was a family man: he really treasured his native people, which is clearly seen in their joint photographs. The man is married, and the marriage was strong from the very beginning: the woman knew what kind of business her future husband would take in life and supported him in every possible way. The wisdom of the wives of famous card or billiard players is amazing: they are always better than their husbands at the tip of the knife, and they need to be always on their guard. Such custodians of marriage should have unlimited confidence in their husbands, no matter what. Because, probably, when Davis was making a beloved woman a proposal, he could not hope for her consent.

Continues

In a happy marriage two sons were born - not only the continuers of the family, but, perhaps, of the fatherhood. But do not make a guess now, while children still have time to think about their lives in the future. In fact, so far, there is one professional snooker player in the family.

Now the whole family lives peacefully in the small town of Brentwood, which is located in one of the many English counties - in the county of Essex.

Childhood

According to the classics of the genre, the Englishman Steve Davis, whose date of birth fell on August 22, 1957, was born in the capital of his native country, in London. The father of the famous player, Bill Davis, surprisingly, was also an avid snooker player - perhaps it was from the father and son that the love for this sport took root. It can not be said that Steve's father played well, but he managed to explain all the rules to his son in detail, which in the future will eclipse his technique not only his father, but also many other talented players.

At age 12, Steve Davis decides to try to start playing snooker. Naturally, at first it was hard for him to keep the bar on par with adults, but soon, after long and zealous training, the guy finally has his own style, and he begins to play really.

early years

After the first successes, young Steve Davis cheered up: now he could, without embarrassment of his own mistakes, worthy of completing the game in the game with an adult man, and the results each time became better and better.

4 years old guy, not giving himself a rest and without making allowances, desperately tried to hone every movement to elegant automatism. He enjoyed watching the game of professionals, and tried to learn from each of them the maximum number of good techniques. The world of snooker more and more dragged Davis, which he did not even resist.

First acquaintance with professional snooker

At the age of 16, young Steve Davis, whose height is now 188 cm and 72 kg respectively, decidedly joined the club of snooker players along with his father. There he saw real burglars, compared to him: almost all were tall, with strong strong hands and fingers, which were invariably accurately controlled by the cue. At first, the guy was tolerated only because of his father's participation, but soon many people began to notice one feature: the white ball, which Davis shyly sent across the table, always went exactly this way, which he was given a weak boyish hand. So Davis first gained respect among people who were much older than him.

Participation in the first tournaments

Since Steve Davis began to walk with his father to the club, he has ceased to see an empty space. Now many members of the club treated the guy in a friendly way, occasionally giving advice or correcting his mistakes. In 1976, Steve decided on a very serious step - a statement about himself. He applied to participate in the National Championship among players under the age of 19 years. To this event, a young snooker player prepared carefully: he worked out blows, checked himself for reaction and visual acuity, trained a lot at home and at the club.

And again, training and patience gave good results: Davis became the winner of the tournament. After that, it began to notice the world's biggest sports people. One famous businessman named Barry Hearn, for a long time after the championship, watched the young winner, and soon after that he offered Steve cooperation.

Already in 1979 took place the first in the life of Davis a serious season of snooker between real opponents. Davis had to work hard on himself to show his whole potential to others. And luck smiled at him: an incomprehensible image of Steve Davis, whose photo can be seen below, managed to get to the World Snooker Championship.

Gradually gaining experience, the player finished the next season even better than the first: he took part in the quarterfinals immediately at the two largest championships: his home country, the UK, and the world.

The Epoch of Steve Davis

It was this name that was received in 1980-81, when the popularity and number of Davis games played just reached their peak. In those years he won a brilliant victory in such famous snooker tournaments as Wilson's Classic, English Professional, and also in the British Championship. Each time Steve showed stunning results, forcing opponents to fear him, and viewers - to admire him. It was in those years that the master of his craft became the recognized favorite in the struggle for the title of world champion in Sheffield. After playing a lot of games and reaching the finals, he beat his opponent, Doug Mantjoy, with a score of 18:12. Such an easy victory finally strengthened the opinion of the championship judges that Davis is worthy of his rank. Thus, Steve Davis, whose personal life has now been completely exchanged for sports, has become one of the youngest champions of the world in his sport.

In the next season, the player was much less lucky, however, and there he showed impressive results: he won more than seven competitions, many of them proved to be more difficult than what Davis faced last season. Finally, he again in the semifinals, in order to fight for the preservation of the world title, that's just here everything turned against him. Already in the first round the opponent showed that he possesses more powerful technique, and therefore Steve began to lose to Tony Nowsomu from the very beginning of the game. As a result, a fateful meeting for both men ended with a score of 10: 1 in favor of Knowlesom. This first major loss almost immediately managed to cover a number of major victories, with which Steve managed to regain the name of the world champion in snooker.

Time loses

Since 1985, in the life of the drunkard from Davis's luck, a long black band began, which entailed not only a number of ugly and largely unjustified from Steve's losses, but also a strong psychological depression of the player himself.

In the world championships, his hand is again pulled out of victory. This time it was Dennis Taylor, a player from whom such a breakthrough no one could have expected. From the outset, Davis unconditionally stood the lead, but almost at the very end the situation suddenly changed dramatically: Taylor seemed to be faster and faster than the opponent, but Steve podrasteril his agility and dispelled attention, relaxed before the "weak" rival. Thus, the victory went into the hands of another worthy player, leaving the former two-time champion with nothing.

The next season was a repetition of the previous one: he started with bright and easy victories, and in the very finale the fiasco of a legend by the name of Steve Davis invariably repeated, whose biography was now undergoing strong changes, since for once the title was taken from the champion's hands. This time the opponent was Joe Johnson.

And yet, despite such setbacks, Davis did not lose heart, but continued to train harder. As a result, he avenged Johnson, and for the sixth time he won the title of world champion.

Snooker Awards

Having received so many titles for spectacular and professionally performed parties, Davis simply could not stay away from awarding outstanding people. He and several of his colleagues in this sport were awarded the Order of the British Empire for their contribution to the development of sports. Such a high award made Steve rank higher than other players and undoubtedly added to his solidity.

Player's personal qualities

Few knew that a short boy, who was afraid even to shake hands with a stranger, was a famous snooker player named Steve Davis. Interesting facts: in childhood and throughout the adolescent period, Davis was up to the impossibility of a shy child. He did not feel very comfortable in big companies and constantly blushed at any told someone else or even his own word. Do not get a guy in snooker, he probably would not have gained his current confidence.

Both spectators and former rivals of the athlete are unanimous in that Steve Davis has always been very calm and even phlegmatic. He rarely managed to get himself out of a bad game, but good - aroused in the player's excitement. Everyone knows that Steve Davis is a successful snooker player for 40 years, but no one can suspect about this man's qualities outside of the billiard table.

In fact, a man has a wonderful sense of humor - he can joke and can, if appropriate, laugh at himself. For his easy character and quick grasp for everything new, Steve was given the nickname of Samouchka. And it should be noted that this name indeed fully embodies the attitude of Davis to snooker. He likes to learn something new from a wide variety of players - like those who are much older, and younger generations.

Current activities

According to official information, 2016 was the year of the end of his long career. Having achieved unthinkable results and having set world records, Steve now with a clear conscience can be sent to a sports pension. It is worth noting that he was engaged in snooker until his 58th birthday, and the age did not hinder the results of the man.

Now this person is spoken of as one of the best players not only in snooker, but in general in billiards.
