Leader with non-traditional sexual orientation

Elio di Rupo - that's the name of the person who went down in history as the first prime minister of Belgium, who is homosexual. About his sexual preferences, he openly stated in 1996, long before he was elected to the main post of the state. At the same time, he repeatedly received threats from Islamists because of his orientation. Behind his shoulders is a successfully defended thesis in chemistry, working in a prestigious university and working experience as mayor of the city. Confesses atheism and is a member of the Masonic lodge. He became prime minister on December 6, 2011, and finally resigned on October 11, 2014.

The current chapter

Belgium's coat of arms on the international political arena is always defended by worthy politicians. The current head of the Cabinet of Ministers did not become an exception. His name is Charles Michel. He was born on December 21, 1975. His political career began at the age of 16 years. In 1998 he received a law degree and became a lawyer. At the age of 24 he became a member of the House of Representatives of the country, and a year later he was entrusted with the administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Walloon government.

Work at a high level

For his years, Charles has already managed to visit the Minister of Cooperation and Development, the mayor of the city of Vavra. After this, on October 11, 2014, he was given the top of the post of prime minister. This became possible after King Philip officially approved him in his appointment and led to a mandatory oath.

Michel's predecessor gave him the keys to the residence and wished all the best, but at the same time he noted that "the new government will try to force all workers without exception to work harder to make money for them and will be economically inefficient than the pain for ordinary citizens." But, anyway, the Prime Minister of Belgium, Charles, became the youngest person in the history of the state, who managed to climb so high on the political ladder.

Protests

Despite the fact that King Philip was a supporter of Charles, a simple people opposed the head of government. In November 2014, a demonstration was held, in which, according to rough estimates, about 100,000 people participated. They were metallurgists, loaders, teachers and other representatives of the middle strata of the population who opposed raising the retirement age, freezing the growth of salaries, reducing the financing of state enterprises and institutions, cutting down programs in the health sector. The rally ended with cars turning over, throwing stones at policemen and igniting fire-fighters. And on December 22, a potato with mayonnaise was thrown at the premiere during his meeting with residents of Namur. However, this incident did not embarrass Charles, and he continued his speech. After that, the attackers were detained by the police. For this Michel began to threaten through anonymous letters, because of which he was assigned additional protection.

Thanks to the siloviki

On March 23, 2017, Charles thanked the country's security service for the prevention of the terrorist attack in Antwerp. According to the city administration, a representative of northern Africa was detained, who, dressed in camouflage, planned to drive a crowd of people in a motor vehicle with French numbers.

Annoying incident

May 28, 2017 Michel was forced to postpone his previously scheduled performance in the Chamber of Deputies because of a sharp deterioration in hearing. This was because the Prime Minister was stunned by a shot from the starting pistol, which the Princess of Belgium produced during the opening of the marathon in the state capital.

Prohibition of referendum

On May 7, 2017, the head of the government spoke very harshly about the fact that he would categorically prevent the participation of Turks with dual citizenship permanently residing in Belgium in resolving the issue of restoring the death penalty in Turkey. At the same time Michel said that he has all the legal opportunities to prevent such a vote on the territory of the Belgian kingdom.

Such a categorical position of the prime minister can also be explained by the fact that the conflict with Turkey has taken its roots since 2016. Last spring, the Turkish leadership put forward stringent demands on the settlement of the situation with migrants, to which Michel said that this is more like blackmail than negotiation at the international level.
