The capital of Croatia is Zagreb

The capital of Croatia - the most interesting city of Zagreb - is the largest city in the country.

Once in Zagreb, the sights will meet you literally everywhere. The most important of them is the square of the famous historical figure Josip Jelacic. It was under his leadership that the Renaissance began in Croatia in the 30s-40s of the XIX century, and in 1848 the Croatian army successfully participated in the suppression of the Hungarian revolution. Having passed the area of Jelacic, you get to Dolac, which is a vast terrace with the Zagreb city market located on it.

The capital of Croatia has not only a historical, but also a church heart, which is rightly called the Cathedral, built in honor of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary. It is located on Kaptol Square. The history of the cathedral goes back to the X-XI century, when this place was a small church, which after a century rebuilt in the cathedral. Unfortunately, the cathedral was destroyed by the Tatar-Mongols. It was restored only in the XV century. To the great joy of the entire population of Croatia, some elements of the ancient building survived, which were thoroughly restored.

For fans of history in Zagreb, the City Museum opens its doors, where you can trace the whole history of Croatia, since ancient people lived on its territory . Also, the capital of Croatia has other interesting museums. Among them, the Museum of Naive Art stands out.

The capital of Croatia is divided into the Upper and Lower Towns. The center of the Upper Town, as, indeed, all of Croatia, is St. Mark's Square. Here is the residence of the president of the country and the building of the government and parliament. Also here is the symbol of Zagreb - St. Mark's Cathedral.

When you first visit the Lower Town, tourists simply run their eyes. There are cinemas, galleries, banks, museums, shops, restaurants, nightclubs and much more. When walking through the city, your eyes will open the most beautiful spheres with picturesque fountains and statues, streets full of historical spirit, magnificent mansions of the XIX century. On the square of Marshal Tito you can see the majestic National Theater, built in neobarochnom style. Next to it is the famous Zagreb University, built in 1856 and still bearing the imprint of neo-romanticism.

Another Zagreb landmark is the Botanical Garden. Here you can not only see various exotic plants from around the world, but also relax on the green grass in the shade of a variety of trees.

Another favorite local residents of Zagreb is the Zrinyevac square. It becomes especially crowded in the second half of the day, when residents and guests of the capital come here to relax from work or shopping trips on numerous benches or in a cafe.

If you come to Zagreb, Croatia will open to you from a wide variety of aspects: and as a country with a rich history, culture and art, and as a country with a picturesque nature and hospitable inhabitants.
