Podust-fish. Who is it?

In the upper reaches of the lower reaches of the rivers, with a leisurely current, there is a pestilence. Fish in different localities is called differently, but more often it's called "black-bellied" or "black-browed" because of a strip that, like a black film, passes under the whole belly of the creature. This species eats vegetative food (although it does not refuse from small crustaceans), however it does not do it like a "herbivorous" roach or bream. Fish podost likes to feed near the stream of currents or in pits where many different kinds of food settle. Experienced fishermen argue that the black-cap can be found near clay drenches, where it eats well with grass and small river inhabitants. Perhaps, that's why the mouth of the peristalis looks like a slot cut over the cartilaginous plate of the lower jaw.

Some fishermen believe that the podst is a fish (the photo is in front of you), which is very similar to a fish, while others point to its similarity to the dace. The maximum length of this individual does not exceed 35 centimeters, but the bait is more likely to come across specimens 20-30 cm long and weighing not more than three hundred grams. Podust-fish covered with very tightly pressed scales: large dark green on the back, silvery on the sides and on the abdomen. The fin on the back is usually black, and the caudal fin is gray, of varying thickness. Nerestitsya podost-fish where warm water flows calmly and not quickly. It is interesting that the average female can lay more than 12 thousand eggs at a time. After sweeping away the white caviar, the fish's sub-fish goes downstream. It is found practically in all the rivers of Russia. However, if you do not arrange a special hunt for it, you can not even suspect that the podeste lives in local waters.

Hunt for a bed

Paradoxically, the places of feeding the peristalis do not coincide with the zones of its habitation. "Podolyaetsya" podst-fish on stony shallows, where the stones are covered with vegetation. It's hard to feed her here. The bait falls into the cracks or under the stones, it is difficult to reach its peristal, therefore it becomes inefficient. The fish rest near the clay ledges, but there it does not show any interest in fertilizing. And without food it can not be caught. The fish are very fond of a large, non-flowable "food", not falling to the bottom. What to do? It is best to find a ledge near the shore with a flat muddy bottom without hooks. Make bait best from steamed grains of buckwheat, wheat or pearl barley. If the flow is fairly rapid, the grains can be rolled into clay so that they are not blown away. However, to lie on the bottom of the bait should not. Podust can be caught, dragging it on the bottom.

And it should be taken into account that the fish does not immediately swallow the bait, but for a while keeps it in its mouth, as if tasting it. Naturally, at this moment she can easily get free and go. When the fish catcher swallows its prey all the same, it begins to furiously resist, but, fortunately, not very long. If the bottom is covered with hooks (and this is how it usually happens), it is best to drag the peristage with a half-cup or a plug. Naturally, it can be caught and with the help of a feeder, however only if the fisherman owns it very skillfully. Feeds a fast-paced fish during the day, and it is constantly in motion. First, the fish is very sensitive to water temperature and flow velocity. Secondly, it constantly "monitors" fast-growing thickets of benthic plants. It's difficult to catch a fish-traveler, but that's why catching a bush becomes so interesting.
