Waterfalls of Karelia - the beauty of nature in Russia

Often Russians go on vacation abroad, and not always these warm countries, it happens that tourists go to Finland to fish and look at nature or to go skiing in the Alps. But there are similar conditions for us. For example, a beautiful and even more affordable alternative to Finnish nature is Karelia.

There are a lot of recreation options: car trips, hiking and hiking, rafting along numerous rivers. And regardless of the mode of transportation along this forest edge, it is necessary to visit the famous waterfalls of Karelia. There are a lot of them here, as well as lakes, where you can have a good fishing after a small hunt in the forest. Of course, the names of some "Paduns" are heard by everyone, others are less well-known, especially those that have kept the uncommon and not too harmonious for us Finno-Ugric names.

The most famous waterfall here is Kivach. Karelia takes quite a lot of tourists every year, and almost all of them consider it necessary to go to this landmark - the symbol of the region. It is most convenient to get there by car from Petrozavodsk towards Kondopoga and further along the P-15 highway. Before the settlement under the name Solokha it will be necessary to turn to the left, and the famous Kivach is found! Of course, you can use special tourist buses, but will it not spoil the feeling of unity with nature? But it is because of this that people come here, it is this atmosphere that Karelia is famous for.

The waterfall "White bridges" is also quite famous. In some sources he still carries the Finnish name of Yukankoski. The Russian name really comes from bridges of white color, built by Finns a little higher upstream River. Now from them there were only ruins. This is the largest plain waterfall in Europe, its height is 19 meters. It is located in the south of the republic. Unfortunately, by car it is impossible to reach directly to it, it is more convenient to walk 10 kilometers from Leppäsylta village on a dirt road. It really is worth it: few waterfalls of Karelia can compare with it in beauty.

Nearby, just 8 kilometers from Pitkyaranta and very close to the tourist route "Blue Road", there is another "Padun", which is worth a look, although very few visit it. It Koirinoyankoski, perhaps, from the first time to pronounce his name is not easy. It is relatively low - only 6 meters, but surrounded by greenery and slabs of pink granite. It's just amazing. A spectacle. Koirinoyankoski is not as popular among tourists as other waterfalls of Karelia, and the lack of people only gives it charm.

There are beautiful corners on the Tohmajoki River, which is also in the south of the republic. But to the north of Lake Ladoga, near the village of Ruskeala, there is the waterfall of Akhinkoski, which became one of the scenery in the Soviet film "The Dawns Here Are Quiet", it was in it Evgeny Komelkova bathed at the enemy's sight.

Not only these waterfalls of Karelia are worth a visit, in the whole republic there are really a lot of picturesque places, practically not visited by tourists. In general, this forest edge is ideal for long hikes. Therefore, it's a little thing: to collect a backpack, take a map and go on a trip.
