Ostankino is a manor house located in the north-east of Moscow, not far from the famous television center. In the old days, many solemn events and celebrations were held here.

Today, Ostankino is a manor that can be seen in many serials and films.

History

Ostankino was first mentioned in documents dating from 1558. At that time, on the site of the present estate, there was a village belonging to Alexei Satin. It was called Ostankino. A little later, the owner of this settlement became the custodian of the state press, the clerk Vasily Shchelkanov. In Ostankino, on his orders, a boyar house was built, a church was built, a grove was planted and a pond dug out. However, during the Time of Troubles, most of the buildings were razed to the ground.

The restoration of buildings began in the 17th century. At this time, the lands of Ostankino became owned by Prince Cherkassky. By his order, on the place of an old wooden church, a stone church was erected, a cedar grove was planted, and hunting grounds were set up in the estate. Princes of Cherkassy, these land belonged almost a century before Varvara Alekseevna Cherkasskaya (the only daughter of the owner of the estate) did not become the wife of Count Peter Borisovich Sheremetyev. Ostankino was the dowry of the bride.

At Sheremetyevo in the estate appeared alleys and a garden, began to build entertainment pavilions. In the greenhouses, on the orders of the new owner, they began to plant ornamental and agricultural crops.

The heyday

A new stage in the formation of Ostankino's history began with Count Nikolai Petrovich Sheremetyev. He was a true connoisseur and connoisseur of the arts, one of the most educated people of that period and an avid theatergoer. Ostankino - manor, where Sheremetiev was able to fulfill his dream. The Count created a theater and palace complex in the estate. Construction work was carried out for six years from 1792. After that, the Ostankino manor acquired its final appearance.

Sheremetyevsky Palace was erected on projects executed by outstanding architects of the 18th century. Among them - V. Brenn, F. Camporesi and I. Starov. Participated in the construction and fortress architect I. Argun.

When building the building a tree was used. After that, the palace was plastered under a stone. The final architectural ensemble of the manor began to include a theater, a small front yard. The decoration of the territory was a pond, as well as a landscape and regular gardens.

The building for staging performances

Samples in the design of the palace, built by Count Sheremetyev, were the best European theaters of those years. The auditorium, made in the shape of a horseshoe, was decorated in pink and blue tones. The layout of this room provided excellent audibility and visibility from all its corners. The hall is designed for two hundred and fifty spectators. The scene on which the actors played was one of the largest in Russia. Its depth was twenty-two meters, and the width-seventeen. Served the lower stage, as well as the two-tier upper engine rooms. The last of these has been partially preserved to the present day.

In order to get into the theater hall, it was necessary to go through the right or left halls. Through the left-wing spectators fell into the foyer of the stalls, which was in the west wing of the building. Here was the Italian pavilion. Its design in greenish-blue tones looked like a park zone. Through the right sents, visitors were taken to the upper foyer, the halls of which were located directly behind one another. At the very end was an art gallery. The Ostankino Theater is interesting. It could be quickly transformed into a ballroom.

The theater in the Count Sheremetyev's estate was inaugurated on July 22, 1795. The scenic dimensions allowed the production of operas written by Russian and West European composers, in which a quick change of scenery was carried out and there were many mass episodes.

At the opening of the theater they showed the lyrical drama "Taking Ishmael". At the same time, the bulk of the invited guests were direct participants in this event.

Architectural complex

Ostankino - a manor, the construction of which was divided into several stages. After the construction of the main wooden theater building, several other buildings were added to it. The foyer of the mezzanine was built, the Egyptian and Italian pavilions, as well as the galleries, were symmetrically located. All these structures in terms of represent a U-shaped complex. At the same time, the general axis of the Sheremetyevs' estate near Moscow was oriented toward the Kremlin. An interesting decision was made when decorating the front yard and outbuildings. Together they resembled a stage space.

The Sheremetevs' Estate in Ostankino is distinguished by its classic simplicity. At the same time, the latter is combined with the abundance of gilding and mirrors used in interior decoration of premises. Decorated rooms of the palace valuable works of art.

Layout

Sheremetyev built a manor for his lover - serf actress Praskovia Kovalyov-Zhemchugova, with whom he was secretly married. Near the estate there was a Recreation Garden. At its planning, various types of elements of the park zone were combined. Together they made up an interesting composition. A tree was erected around the garden. Behind him, on the east side, housed huts for servants, and on the western side - a greenhouse and a horse yard.

The territory to the north has been turned into a surplus garden. It laid trails for walks, planted trees and dug a pond. Near the nearby river Kamenka also ennobled the area. Here they dug a whole cascade of ponds. In those days Ostankino was a manor in which the secular society of the capital gathered. Various events and celebrations were held here, and performances were also shown.

The new life of the estate

In the 19th century. Sheremetyevs moved to St. Petersburg. From this time they began to visit their mansion only occasionally. However, despite the lack of hosts, on holidays there still continued to organize parties, during which representatives of the secular circles of the capital gathered in the Recreation Garden. Simple people on the shore of the pond arranged picnics. Somewhat later, managers of the Moscow estate of the Sheremetyev family began to hand over farm buildings to their dachas. The palace could be examined by special permission, and then it was turned into a private museum.

Fate of the estate after the October Revolution

The Ostankino estate (see photo below) was nationalized after the arrival of Soviet power.

In 1918 it was turned into a state museum. Since 1938, the Sheremetyevs' estate was renamed the Palace-Museum of Serf Art. The new name was given to the estate in 1992. It became the Moscow museum-estate of Ostankino.

After viewing the unique items collected here, visitors are invited to go to the gallery. On the walls of this room hang various drawings, designs and measuring drawings of the 18th century.
