Orcs ("Warhammer"): a description of the characters

Orcs came in modern culture from the tales of Western Europe and firmly settled in it after appearing in The Lord of the Rings by John Tolkien. Actually, the word "orc" and was born thanks to him. Only in books these warlike creatures, something similar to goblins, did not linger and migrated to many fantasy universes and games on them. Dungeons and Dragons, Warcraft, Might and Magic, The Elder Scrolls ... All and not to list. But today we will talk about that universe where there is only space for war and where the orcs feel like fish in the water. Of course, this is "Warhammer." Probably, in a world of constant war, no one feels as confident as the orcs.

"Warhammer" and his fans have expanded the world of greenskins to unimaginable sizes. About orcs know almost everything: from theories of the origin of their race to what currency they pay each other. But first things first.

Theories of origin

There are two main theories of the origin of orcs in the "Warhammer" universe. The first, which, by the way, the greenskins themselves adhere to, says that they were born some kind of orcotic race was wise. They were far from mighty warriors and needed obedient fighters to defend themselves from strangers. With the help of changes in the genetics of his species, the wise men managed to create warlike and mighty soldiers. The second theory states that the orcs were grown by the race of the Ancients - the most powerful and oldest creatures in the entire universe. This was done (as well as the creation of other intelligent inhabitants of the galaxy) to fight the K'tan, who, together with the subordinate race of the necrons, fought against the Ancients.

Types of orcoid creatures

Reproduction in orcs occurs through spores, as in fungi. In addition to the greenskins themselves, they can be born:

  • Skvigi (orkoid beasts, which have numerous applications in the life of greenskins: from food to use as weapons and even original living hairpieces);

  • Snotling (the most mentally retarded representatives of the orcish race, who mainly cultivate mushrooms for the Oroch beer);

  • Goblins (in the "Warhammer" universe, fantasy are weak, but very cunning, insidious and intelligent creatures that create the majority of the orcs' technique);

  • Gretchina (goblins in Warhammer 40,000), do all the dirty work on the household for the orcs, they serve the artillery on the battlefield, and can also act as a living shield, shell pushers and a demining tool.)

Society and customs

Orc customs, frankly, are barbarous. Only the Boss, the largest and strongest orc who stands at the head of the orc community, can choose the trophies from the battlefield. But even among them there are gradations, when greenskins unite in large masses for military operations, which, however, are constantly being carried out. Below rank is the Nob. They are inferior in size and strength only to the Boss himself. When the hike is successful, the Nobles gain strength and begin to glance at the leader's place. In such cases, bosses often give them either a truly suicidal task, or an ax on the head.

Next in the Table of Ranks are the Mekboys (chief mechanics of the orcs), Boleboys (physicians) and Supernaturalboys (sorcerer orcs who all get it is unclear how, however, like everything else in most greenskins). The most numerous are the Boys - ordinary soldiers who make up the core of the army.

Economy

The currency is the teeth. Orcs have a lot of them: new ones are constantly growing, and old ones are falling out. To become a little richer, hit your neighbor hard enough and collect your dropped teeth. But this way of earning is a little risky, because the offended party can simply give change. Different orcish commanders hang themselves with necklaces from the teeth of their enemies or caught in drunken fights. Due to the excellent hardness of the teeth becomes not only the equivalent of currency, but also the material for weapons and booking. Green-skinned people have a strange craving for red color. They believe that the technique, painted in this color, travels much faster. And since the orcs' high speed causes a terrible euphoria, their craving for red becomes understandable.

Language

They say the orcs in the original are in a highly distorted English with a bunch of mistakes. In Russian it is translated appropriately. The most famous word from the oracle lexicon is Waaagh !. He has several meanings: from the special mental field created by the orcs, and thanks to which even two connected sticks start to shoot, before the battle campaign and the favorite cry on the battlefield.

Where Gork and Da Morque will be sent

And who, besides themselves, do the orcs believe? "Warhammer" would not be "Warhammer", even if the aggressive greenskins were not somehow connected with Warp - hyperspace in the world of the war hammer. The main gods of the orcs are Gork and Mork, who, in addition, are twins. The first is cruel, but cunning, and the second is tricky, but cruel. This blurring leads to numerous disputes between orcish theologians, which simply pour into massacres. The twin gods are constantly fighting the gods of other races. They can not be defeated: Gork is smashing his club with the enemies of the head, and Mork sneaks surreptitiously.

Sometimes in myths the twin gods turn out to be chopped, but thanks to the unification of millions of orcs they again rise up unharmed. In general, green-skinned does not matter which of them to worship. Usually Gorka prayed to Boys, and Morku - Mekboys and Supernatural Beats. In the image and likeness of the twin gods, the orcs build their most powerful combat vehicles - gargants, which will be described below.

Warhammer: Orc Techniques

Now a little about the most interesting samples of technology. What are the orcs used for? "Warhammer" 40000 gave birth to dreadnoughts, which are divided into Megadreds and Smeretrades. They can create Boleyboys and Mekboys. As a pilot, a seriously injured orc or gretchina, who is drilled with a skull for connection to the control of the machine, can perform. The most horrifying machines are the Gargants - analogues of human titans. It is an amazingly tenacious and deadly machine, each system duplicated. Each gargant is individual, because it is built according to a single project. After the victory, alongside this machine, often lie the spare parts of the defeated enemies, which are used to repair the gang of orcs.

"Warhammer" (fantasy) offers an interesting variation of the ancient catapult - the catapult of dive goblins. Originally it was used for reconnaissance, but then someone came up with the idea to run goblins already as shells, causing considerable damage to the enemy.

Orcs in the games on "Warhammer"

The most famous orcs brought games series Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War, where they were available for the game. Already in the first part of this game based on the universe "Warhammer" against the orcs will have to fight hand in hand with the Order of the Blood Ravens. Of the latest products of the gaming industry, the "War Varhammer" strategy is singled out for "Warhammer". Passage for the orcs in it may seem a bit strange: a player can not trade with anyone, his armies can suddenly start to fight with each other, and the economy is completely imprisoned for raids on the enemy. But can please the start of the game for greenskins in the "Total War Varhammer": the orcs can expose large armies almost immediately.

Epilogue

So, here comes the end of a short story about what the orcs represent in the world of the war hammer. "Warhammer", without any doubt, greatly enriched their history and image.
