Olginsky pond: rest and fishing in St. Petersburg

In Vyborgsky district of St. Petersburg there is a wonderful corner of nature - the Olginsky pond. It would be more correct to say, it's a piece of a huge natural massif, the Sosnovka park.

History

In 1941, the city needed quartz sand and clay, which were the material for the manufacture of forms used in the manufacture of shells and mines. The city was surrounded by an enemy, it became impossible to import them from the region, and then, having conducted reconnaissance in different parts of St. Petersburg, they decided to build a quarry here. So on the outskirts of the city there was a pit. Quartz sand was extracted here.

We loaded the sand with shovels, exported them to gas-generating machines. Later tram ways were brought here, they were extended as the quarry was developed. Later, belt conveyors arranged, which greatly helped the workers. They called the quarry "nutritious item" foundry. The extraction of sand here was also carried out in the post-war years. In addition to foundry production, sand began to be used by builders.

The present

Subsequently, in the early 70's, this pit was filled with water, it was cultivated. Rest in St. Petersburg on the shore of the Olginsky quarry became popular.

The water here is clean, despite the fact that often vacationers leave behind dirt. Water is cleaned every year, samples are taken for analysis. So the condition of the reservoir is controlled. In the pond, more than ten sources enrich it with clean water.

There is a sandy beach on the beach, where in the hot weather gather for sunbathing and water procedures.

Animal world

For lovers of various wheeled vehicles, the Sosnovka Park is a real expanse. A lot of tracks have to skating. Transport, for lack of own, you can rent here. Bicycles are especially popular. There are electric cars, tandems for traveling around the park in the family, and scooters.

The Olginsky pond is a great place for a family holiday. Children happily bathe, feed birds, protein. In the park for them there are playgrounds and an amusement park. Sosnovka Park

Sosnovka Park is a historical place. In olden days, local places attracted duelists here. I shot Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov in a duel, for which he was sent into exile to the Caucasus.

Not far from the park were dachas Vissarion Grigorievich Belinsky and Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev. They liked to walk along the paths of the park. The place is fertile for walks and recreation. The name of the park says that here pine trees prevail, so valued for their medicinal properties.

During the war there was an airfield for covering the city. Now in that part of the park there is a memorial to the dead soldiers and a cemetery of the dead pilots is located.

Along the well-groomed alleys of the park are a lot of shops, so there is always where to sit down and relax from an intensive walk.

It is also remarkable that mushrooms and berries grow in the park, because if you turn aside from the beaten path, you can get into a real forest. And besides the Olginsky pond there is a couple of smaller reservoirs. Fishing in St. Petersburg is possible near the city and at the same time practically in the forest.

The park often hosts concerts, folk festivals, various festivals, which attracts even more visitors. In several open areas on holidays are amateur groups and famous artists.

It is remarkable that the park often hosts environmental landings for cleaning the territory. Activists hang garbage bags over its territory, which helps in maintaining order.

How to get there?

The Olginsky Pond in the Vyborgsky District of St. Petersburg is the closest to the Polytechnic and Akademicheskaya metro stations. They can be reached on foot. The distance is about 2-2.5 km. Tram number 61 from "Polytechnic" will bring you closer to the goal or bus number 93 "from the Academic." You need to go to the stop "Tikhoretsky Prospekt" / "Svetlanovsky Prospekt".

You can also take a trolleybus number 40 from Svetlanov Square to the street of Jacques Duclos and walk.

The journey from the city center to the desired place (Olginsky pond, St. Petersburg) will take about an hour.

Where to eat?

On the territory of the park there is a couple cafes and a large restaurant, also in the season there is a mobile kiosk with hot dogs. So you do not lose your hunger. Although many come here with their supplies, and even arranged on a meadow for frying shish kebabs, although this is prohibited here.
