Obscene vocabulary in everyday life

According to the old version of the criminal code of the Russian Federation, obscene language was considered petty hooliganism and could well have resulted in fifteen days of public works. Today, this offense is listed as an administrative offense and is punishable by a fine. And the very attitude to words that were previously considered obscene, vulgar and unacceptable, has changed somewhat. Often, taboo vocabulary finds application even in television programs, movies and art works. However, such censorship bans I personally always seemed hypocrisy, for little is found in Russia people who never used obscene words in their speech.

The "charm" of the profanity is so strong that many foreigners begin to learn the Russian language from these precise and concise expressions. In my memory, the picture of the times of the dry law, which happened to be seen in my native Voronezh, crashed painfully. A young man, obviously not of Slavic appearance, (today he would have been told about "an African American") smiled fervently over a broken three-liter jar, from which a foam "Zhiguli" flowed out by a stream. It should be noted that foreign phraseological phrases were given to a young man easily, he said almost without accent. Passing by the people looked at the guy with pity and sympathy, but no one spoke of his conviction. On the contrary, it was clear to everyone how great the grief of a black student who had lost a coveted drink. Everyone understood that for this situation it is difficult to find more exact words.

By the way, psychologists also believe that obfuscated vocabulary serves as a kind of protection that allows one to isolate oneself from the aggression of the external world or, on the contrary, to relieve the accumulated psychological tension. Many individuals have the habit of being so strong that they are perceived as abusive at the level of instincts. It is worth uttering a code word of three letters, and things are right at the same time.

Undoubtedly, obscene vocabulary (in the use of "abusive swearing") can not but cause controversy. On the one hand, we are accustomed to consider it a manifestation of uncultured and ill-mannered. But if you dig deeper, mate is an integral part of our language. Of course, it would be an exaggeration to talk about any cultural value of this very peculiar layer of Russian speech. However, the mat was born not today and has deep roots. The first "pearls" were seen in birch bark of the twelfth century.

For most linguists, the origin of the Russian mat is not a secret. Much of the abusive words have purely Slavic roots. At the same time, it should be noted that in their original meaning, many of them had a sacred meaning. For example, the well-known definition of a female genital organ is derived from the word "kizda", which means "giving life". With proper use, these words served as a guard against evil forces, helped to restore the energy balance of the human body. However, over time, not only their sound was distorted, but also the essence.

It should be noted that in terms of the number of abusive words in the native language, the Slavs do not lead at all, strange as it may sound, the English. By the way, their obscene vocabulary often has a frank sexual connotation, unlike the Slavic variant, which is distinguished by the variety of word forms.

However, the joke expression "We do not swear at mates, we talk to them" is more suitable for Russians. It is difficult to imagine an English gentleman savoring an obscene anecdote in the presence of a lady. At us it happens pretty often. Moreover, the Russian ladies sometimes use such intricate "three-story" turns that the English port loader will get away with envy after hearing them.

Contrary to popular belief, obscene words are not characteristic of most Slavic peoples. So, for example, Ukrainians practically do not use common, abusive language. In this case, they have very amusing expressions that are not the same as mate in terms of meaning or sound. Even the Poles, who, as you know, never get in their pocket for strong words, the worst cursing is "psya kvov" (something similar to our "son of a bitch").

The list of Russian obscene expressions is so wide that its compilation will take more than one month. By intricacy and ornate, many phrases can well compete with literary models. However, this is hardly a reason for pride. After obscene vocabulary - a sign of the limited mind and vocabulary of the individual. And no matter how many words were spoken in defense of the mat, I personally hate to hear Russian speech, flavored with "Old Slavonic".
