National Tatar costume: general information

National Tatar costume can be called a valuable monument of folk art. For many centuries, various changes were made to it, which even perfected minor details. A strong influence on the costume was provided by Islam and the traditions of the Eastern peoples. However, it can also be called only a collective way, since it combines a wide range of national clothes of Tatars from various groups.

Such a suit is able to tell a lot about its owner: to indicate the age and social position in society, the character, taste and individual traits.

National Tatar costume is characterized by a combination of rich colors, the presence of headdresses with complex ornaments, the presence of numerous types of shoes, as well as jewelry. They were made by only the best craftsmen in their field.

Tatar costume as a basis uses long loose shirts, reminiscent of a tunic. Despite their size, they never girded.

Men's shirts were sewn to the length of the knee, the women reached the ankles of their owners and had wide sleeves.

Wealthy Tatars could use expensive fabrics - wool, silk, brocade and others. One could meet the decoration of the shirts with ribbons, lace, braid or flounces. Women put a lower breastplate under them.

Tatar national costume also includes pants made of lightweight fabric. Men's stripes, women's are monophonic. On solemn clothes (for example on a wedding suit) there could be a bright fine pattern.

Outer clothing did not have fasteners and sleeves and sewn from the factory (wool or cotton) fabric or manufactured at home, as well as cloth or fur (winter version). She always had a back, wedges on the sides and a right-sided smell. To the outer clothing was attached a belt, which was sewn from the fabric.

Women's national Tatar costume was decorated with decorative stitching, fur or embroidery, in the eastern regions coins were used.

Men's and women's hats were very different. In the first case, they were divided into households and weekends. They amazed with their variety, because all kinds of fabrics and all kinds of ornaments were used for making. The head cover was a skull cap. Young people had brighter colors, men and older people wore more modest options. When leaving the house, various hats or hats were put on top.

Age-specific differentiation was also present in women. By the headdress, it was possible to find out the family and social situation of its possessor. Girls wore knitted or fabric calfaki of white color. Women who were married left their homes with handkerchiefs, light shawls or bedspreads. Over wore decorated bandages, which helped tightly hold the headgear.

National Tatar costume also includes special shoes. As a working variant, bast shoes were worn because they were comfortable and light. Traditional boots of Tatars are boots and shoes, which were made of leather (sometimes colorful) and had both a hard and soft sole.
