"Nagorny" (Palace of Sports): reconstruction and modern activities

In Nizhny Novgorod, there are enough places where people can relax after a busy day or spend a fun and enjoyable weekend. One of such popular places, especially among active people, is KRK "Nagorny". The Sports Palace was built more than 45 years ago, but, as before, it does not lose its top positions in popularity among visitors of different ages.

Where is, and how to get there?

KRK "Nagorny" (Palace of Sports) is located in the Soviet district. It is directly on Gagarin Avenue. The building is well visible from afar. It has a semi-circular shape, and a large number of huge windows glisten on the facade. Here is an excellent transport interchange, and it will not be difficult to get there.

You can get there by 3 types of public transport:

• By shuttle bus № т-3, т-4, т-5, т-26, т-33, т-81, т-97 and others.
• Bus number 1, 2, 12, 30, 43, 72, 85 and others.
• Trolleybuses No. 16, 21, 13.

In all variants of the passage, you need to get off the transport at the "Sports Palace" stop.

Features of the complex development

The building was built in 1965. On its base, the hockey team Torpedo was trained and competed. Then the Palace of Sports was built at the Auto Plant, and she relocated there.

In this building the basketball team of the city played and trained and the women's ice hockey team was based. Since 2007, Torpedo returned to Nagorny. The Palace of Sports is prepared for reconstruction. This was due to the neglected state of the building and new rules in the hockey league.

According to the regulations since 2007, the teams that entered the Super League had to have at their base an ice rink with a capacity of more than 5,5 thousand spectators. Therefore, the ice arena had to be expanded and improved at a fast pace.

Construction took six months. During this time, a great deal of work has been done in several large stages. In September, the renovated sports palace "Nagorny" was opened.

Modern building for sports

The project provided for the construction of several annexes. At the second stage of the reconstruction, one of them was completely completed. The four-storeyed component of the complex was erected from the end part. It housed:

• A large sports and games room;
• library;
• Medical compartment;
• A spacious conference room with modern equipment;
• Museum of sports;
• Cafe and restaurant.

The second annex of the Sports Palace "Nagorny" should be on the side of Gagarin Avenue. In it, according to the plan, the regional organization of trade unions should be located. This construction belongs to long-term projects and will take many years.

Activity of DS

The renovated building "Nagorny" (the Palace of Sports in Nizhny Novgorod) allows you to hold competitions of different levels in it. This possibility is associated with the complete reconstruction of the building, which was carried out according to all international requirements.

Now here play and train hockey teams "Torpedo" and "Skif". Skaters are also engaged on an ongoing basis in the building. Experienced athletes and small future champions are preparing here.

For many years the school of hockey for children in "Nagorny" has been functioning with great success. The Palace of Sports organizes night skiing on the ice for the residents of the city. At the weekend, the ice rink is also open to those who wish and those who like active leisure.

On ice arenas, colorful and colorful show programs are periodically arranged. They are played by local athletes and teams from other cities and countries. In this way, more children and young people are attracted to sports.
