MSI card: how to update BIOS

Anyway, many users of computers and laptops, regardless of the installed OS, face the concept of a primary input / output system, called BIOS or BIOS. And quite often there is a need to install an update, in particular on motherboards MSI. How to update BIOS for this particular manufacturer, will now be considered. Separately, the topic of fixing possible errors that may appear during the installation of new firmware will be mentioned.

MSI: how to update BIOS and why?

Of course, when buying a computer or a laptop, no one in the technical specifications of the motherboard does not delve into. The potential user is more interested in the processor, RAM, hard disk volume, video card, etc. And not everyone realizes that all these components are installed exactly on the "motherboard", and for the correct operation of all devices requires the presence of a primary system in the form of a BIOS or UEFI.

Nothing eternal happens. As the device drivers become obsolete and constantly require the installation of updates, not to mention the Windows systems themselves, so the BIOS is also not permanent. Let's see how to update BIOS on a laptop (MSI board is used as a basis) or on a stationary computer. In principle, there is not much difference.

General rules for installing firmware

To install BIOS updates, you should clearly understand that an incorrect firmware version or its incorrect installation can have simply catastrophic consequences. Therefore, you must use strictly defined packages designed exclusively for this brand of MSI motherboard. How to update BIOS? To begin with, you need to fulfill several required conditions.

How to update BIOS on MSI motherboard: the first thing to do

First of all, you need to know the modification of the "motherboard". The name MSI still does not say anything. To do this, you can use several simple methods.

For example, access to a detailed configuration description can be obtained with utilities such as Everset, where you will see a description of all the devices of the computer system, including the motherboard.

However, you can do it even easier, because Windows systems initially have a viewer for all the information. To do this, use the msinfo32 command, which is entered in the Run console. And it is not necessary that it be launched on behalf of the administrator. You can rummage in the "Device Manager", where you will have to find two identifiers DEV and VEN, and then search for them (by the way, this is the best option).

Required Software

In principle, after this, you can start installing the update. Note that not all search and driver update programs can perform the corresponding search. Therefore, the use of automated programs like Driver Booster here will not give an effect.

So, you have to go to the site of the motherboard manufacturer yourself through any web browser. In the browser itself, a special blocker AdBlock can be enabled by default, which should be brought to an inactive state for a while.

If the desired update is found, you just need to download and install it with the startup at the administrator level. Otherwise, on the same site you can download a specialized utility called MSI Live Update.

MSI Live and fixing a disk error "A"

Finally, let's see how to update BIOS. MSI Live Update as a program is not so difficult to master. Here the most important function is to start scanning.

The application, by the way, works on the same type as the automatic update drivers, but has a specific focus. The field of how the distribution files are found, you just need to choose to install the version that exceeds the modification available on the computer.

The process itself boils down to the fact that the original distribution is stored on the hard drive, but it's better to specify the save location manually, because the program uses such a deep path by default that it can be problematic to find the downloaded file itself. The file itself is an archive from which you need to extract data by any archiver or simply by means of the system. Only after that it is possible to start the executable files, the whole process will be in automatic mode, after which a full reboot will be required.

In principle, for updating it is not recommended to use what is offered to address the issue of how to update the BIOS of MSI from a USB flash drive. First, you have to write information to the drive, and secondly, and such a device is not immune from failures. As it turns out, it's easiest to update from a file saved on the hard drive.

After running the utility, you should only agree with the automatic installation of the firmware, after which the process starts. Then you just need to wait for it to finish (note: some additional settings may be required in Windows 7).

In the case of the "Seven", an error reading the disc "A" can be issued. This is normal, especially since floppy drives are not used for a long time. To solve the problem, enter the settings and select Standard CMOS Setup, where the Floppy Drive is set to Not Installed, save the changes (F10, and then confirm it by pressing the "Y" button). After that, an automatic restart will follow, and the problem will completely disappear.

Instead of the total

Actually, this is all about motherboards MSI. How to update BIOS, I hope, is already clear. What is most interesting, many users are afraid to do this, believing that in this way you can just do much harm to the system. Nothing wrong with that. As it is believed (this is evidenced by the reviews of many experts), after updating the BIOS, the increase in the productivity of computer systems is often noticed. And the process of updating, in general, is not particularly complicated. Here the most important thing is to correctly determine the model of the "motherboard" and download for it exactly the update that corresponds to it. Well and further, that is called, business of technics. Moreover, any user can easily perform such operations, observing several of the main conditions described above.
