Moscow Northern River Station

Since the sixties of last century, Moscow has gained the glory of the port of the five seas. The shipping channels entered the system, and the main waterways deepened, which allowed traveling along the river-sea route with access to five seas: Black, White, Azov, Caspian and Baltic.
In the capital of the navigable is the river Moscow (all its extension). The Moscow canal (it is connected with the river by a system of locks) also belongs to navigable ones.

There are three ports for cargo handling. To transport passengers along the water within the city, river trams (small motor ships) are provided, mooring to numerous piers.

For those who plan long-distance cruises, separate river stations are built, including the Northern River Station, which is also an architectural monument. In everyday life he is called Khimkinsky.

The northern river port is located on the Leningrad Highway (Khimki Reservoir). Refers to the Moscow River Shipping Company (CAO Moscow).

They built the Northern River Station in 1937, even before they filled the Khimki reservoir. It has the shape of a huge ship. Among the characteristic architectural elements are a wide, rather spacious central staircase and a high spire topped by a star.

The entrance to the Northern River Station is decorated with majolica panels depicting, in particular, Moscow's future. On the terraces of the station you can admire the two fountains, symbolically named "North" and "South", which means the connection between all seas, in all directions. In the tower of the station there are built unique chimes, brought from the famous Resurrection Cathedral from Volokolamsk.

At the service waiting - a restaurant located in the building. According to the plan of the designers, a mechanism was installed in the tower that allows to lower the spire (when the navigation is finished and resume). But for all these years it was done only a few times.

The northern river port has a length of one and a half kilometers, half of which was built in the 60s. The rest was completed later.

The Northern River Station is the point of departure of ships to Astrakhan, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don and others. Several special routes have been created for those who enjoy traveling on ships (the bay of Radosti, Troitsky Bay). Very popular walks on the reservoir (landing on shore is not provided).

Part of the cruises begins with the station of the South (Nagatinsky zaton), the rest (the majority) - from the North.

The Northern River Station (Moscow) is located in the north-western part of the capital (Leningradskoe shosse).

The most convenient way to get to it by metro is by going to the station "Rechnoy Vokzal". At the exit of the metro you will see a park. Before the pier, if there is a desire, strength and time, you can walk: a few minutes down the avenue to Leningradsky Prospekt. From there you can also consider the station building.

You can get there otherwise - leaving the metro, immediately turn left and, without going into the park itself, go along the shopping tents to the underground passage. Once on the other side of the Leningrad Highway, you will see the North River Station - a tall building, topped with a spire.
