Monkey tongue: a cartoon of M. Zoshchenko on anthropoid apes

M. Zoshchenko entered the literature, having served on the front of the First World War and greatly undermined his health. This was in the early 20-ies, when the NEP was marching around the country. From all over the city came the burghers, who clung tenaciously to the new system and strove to be on the level of time. The story "Monkey tongue" shows these "new Russians". It is relevant even today, when, after the changes in the "dashing" 90s of the past century, foam and indomitable thirst for profit surfaced, and in the language on the streets, the profanity was still heard and heard even from the lips of the girls. They we hear modern monkey tongue. But they consider themselves to be cultural people, because they easily manage computers and study in colleges and institutes. However, they do not speak Russian. Their destiny is monkey tongue.

Three heroes of the story

Three party members were at the party meeting. One of them does not keep up with the times and grieves how difficult the Russian language is. For him, the difficulty lies in the appearance in the speech of new foreign words, such as "plenum", "quorum". They do not understand their meanings, and there is nobody to explain. And two people sitting beside him and pour them and other foreign words. The conversation, according to the narrator, is very intelligent and intelligent, but since there is no higher education, he sits and just claps his ears. From this poor fellow, as always with such "smart" conversations, and with breathing, and with nerves, there are malfunctions. He did not get to the definition of "monkey tongue", for him it is a high style of exposition of high thoughts.

The language of the two conversing

He is full of absurdity from the first words. Interlocutors with an intelligent appearance distort as soon as they can Russian speech, turning it into an imitative monkey language. Their speech is full of vernacular, and also demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of what their mouths are uttering. The word "plenum" and adjectives formed from it have different shades. The meeting can be simply "plenary" and "strongly plenary." And the word "quorum" comes to life, and it is not known why it is selected. The speaker of this phrase can not explain it to the interlocutor, and the listener, who listens to them eagerly, only winds up new complicated and necessary words. And how a remarkably more educated interlocutor puts into speech that he "permanently refers to meetings". This is truly a monkey language, which M.Zoshchenko uses virtuously. He shows three of his characters and miserable, and insignificant, and arrogant. Zoshchenko's language fully characterizes his characters: small and superfluous people who climb into a great life from the curb of the old world. They have much in common with the characters of N. Gogol and A. Chekhov.

Dolls puppets

Puppets from the puppet theater appear before us three heroes Zoshchenko. Monkey language - the main thing that turns them from people into obedient puppets, ready to do anything to survive and live with all the amenities that they need. We must - and they sit for hours on a boring assembly, which goes "the industry from the empty to the empty." Better than Zoshchenko, monkey tongue is used only by his characters.

How the story is built

There is no intrigue or action in it. The writer only analyzes three middle-class people, using at the same time special comic phrases of speech. Nonsense, which they pronounce with an intelligent look, they are ready to listen from the rostrum when an orator comes to her. And their vocabulary is full of vulgarisms (for example, the word "left"). The presidium appears to be out, and this is a man. He is characterized by a leading, most competent interlocutor, as an acute and first speaker. And then another vulgarism "always" comes up. Neighbors greedily listened to the man on the podium and nodded their heads as obedient dolls. Their narrow horizons and low intelligence no longer allow anything to be done. The narrator even admits that for him all the words are dark and vague, and this couple is a kind of intelligent and understanding people, which further emphasizes their wretchedness. They are not only puppets, but also monkeys with their imitative behavior. And maybe these people came from pigs?

The main thing in the work of M. Zoshchenko is a man-philistine. His original talent had the ability to flaunt, as a searchlight, a petty bourgeois in any guise. They abundantly bred, like bedbugs, and climbed out of all the cracks. This oppressed the writer, made his look ironic and bitter. The characters in the story "Monkey tongue" are incredibly far from what is happening in society. They do not understand either the causes or the consequences of what is happening, but only try to correspond, at least in appearance, to new trends. Everyone should read a short and capacious story "Monkey tongue". The analysis that we have done will be continued by the reader with pleasure.
