Others already enjoy immense popularity and bring fabulous incomes to their creators. One of the interesting and rapidly developing areas is manhwa, which originates in Japan.

What it is?

Manhwa is Japanese comics. However, you can find another name - manga. It is worth distinguishing it from anime - Japanese animation. There is an opinion that the Japanese borrowed the idea of creating comics from Western cultures, but Japanese cartoons and images of animals using ink were painted thousands of years ago. These drawings were used for teaching and entertainment.

Audience of the Manhwa

Manga is fond of people of all ages, whether young children or middle-aged women. It helps to forget about everyday worries and plunge into the world of fantasy. Let's look at this direction in more detail.

Characters of the Manhwa

Manhoe and anime tend to show students and office employees, their daily lives. All the characters from the past and the future are imperfect, have their own habits and shortcomings. If American heroes are attributed to the fight against evil, then the Japanese are ordinary people who attend school, do homework, scandal their parents. The peculiarity of the characters lies in their psychic abilities or exotic friends. There is a stereotype that Japanese heroes have big eyes and thick hair. In the manga this is not quite true.

The basis is the dreams and hopes of the heroes. Korean manhwa, moreover, is an instructive enough work in which the actions of the characters always have consequences. When making a mistake, they get a lesson for the future. All heroes are alive, they grow, develop, acquire new experience and knowledge. Negative characters change and become positive.

Themes of the Japanese manga

As for the themes, the manhwa are distant works from the American comic books, there are no real phenomena such as death. There is no absolute evil, even negative characters have positive traits and the ability to change. Another feature of this trend is "technology" - the combination of science and technology with the world of fantasy and fiction.

According to the manhoe, life has sense, for which it is necessary to struggle, the arising difficulties can be overcome, and laborious work always brings its fruits. Thanks to such simple and comprehensive themes in conjunction with a good story, the world of the Manhwa emerges.

What is the reason for the popularity of the Manhwa?

To understand what is a particular direction, it is necessary to trace its history. As you know, manhwa has long existed. Their history originates in Japan. And to this day they find images in ancient tombs that are very similar to comic books.

The main reason for the popularity of Japanese comics is the complexity of local writing, because even now the children are able to master the vocabulary sufficient for reading books, only after 12 years. For this reason, not only Japanese literature was created , but also its analogue - retellings in pictures with small texts, where the whole meaning could be understood from the illustrations.

Tezuka Osamu contributed to the formation of the Manhwa as one of the main directions of Japanese culture. And mass distribution began in the second half of the 20th century, along with American comic books.

Manhwa is printed on the traditions of Japan from right to left and is drawn in black and white. Almost always this series, which are published for 15-20 pages in magazines and newspapers. You can also find the manhwa in separate volumes, which are called tankobons. The man who draws the manhwa is called "mangaka." Mostly texts are written and illustrations are created by one person, but in some cases authors' groups are included in the work.

There is also an amateur manhwa - this is "doujinshi". Mangaki themselves create illustrations for the texts and even publish them on their personal funds. In Japan, there are markets where you can buy amateur works. Some well-known mangaki just started, because in such places you can find your publisher.

Manhwa is the direction of the future, which is becoming more and more popular outside of Japan - in the US, Germany, Poland and even goes to the markets of Russia.

The Past Manhiva

About 30 years ago it was believed that comics have a bad influence on school children, and the shops where they were sold were perceived as places visited by unworthy people. Today, manhwa has become an effective tool in culture, mathematics, history and other industries.

In the 60-70s, the profession of the animator was practically not quoted, and comic books were associated with juvenile delinquency. Today, everything became completely different. Comics are gaining popularity, a lot of illustrated textbooks are printed. Some of them are even filmed.

The screen version of the manga works

The most popular book with comics in children and parents was "A thousand magic Chinese characters," thanks to which you can learn hieroglyphics, although this is not an easy task.

When the merits of manga became obvious to all, and the attitude to this business was changed from biased to enthusiastic, a series appeared on the comics "The Full House". The screenplay became a hit abroad and won countless popularity among people of all ages.

Representatives of cinematography consider the transfer of comics to screens as a good way to promote the manhwa to the masses. In the 80 years on the screen appeared a book by Lee Hyun Xie "The team of baseball monsters." Then the world was screened comic books by Ho Yen Man "Thachcha" about gamblers and "Sikkaq" about the cooks. In modern times, Internet comics are becoming popular, as, for example, "Ikki", which Yun Tae Ho screened and attracted to this process famous movie stars of Korea.

Manhwa in the visual arts

Manhwa was also transferred to the fine arts, as evidenced by the exhibition organized by Lee Chol Zhu in Seoul 33 + Collections. The goal of the organizer was to bring the genre closer to art. The opening of the art market has provided new opportunities in the sphere of such business, since now the consumer has the opportunity to purchase amazing creations. Manhwa from now on will never return to those times when it was considered a base culture.

The Manhwa art market is an exhibition of genuine works in the comic genre, which can be purchased as full-fledged paintings. The name of the exhibition was not chosen by chance. 33 + Collections means 33 famous masters plus a few little-known prospective artists. Here you can find not only new works, but also works of the past. Books with comics, drawings, sketches - all this can be found at the exhibition, which, incidentally, was the first such event in history. The best manhvas will decorate any interior.

In the French city of Angouleme, since 73 years, international comic book festivals have been organized with auctions. The largest collection of works is in the same place in the Museum of Comics and has about 8 thousand works.

So, manhwa are Korean comics, the history of whose development dates back to the distant past, but already has its roots in the future.
