Filmography Sokurova - a meeting of documentary and artistic transformation of reality

Alexander Sokurov - this is a cultural figure, whose name is always on hearing. He is known not only in his native Russia, but also abroad, where he shoots many of his films. Virtually no international film festival is complete without its presence as a member or member of the jury. His path was long and thorny, and eventually led to a well-deserved success.

Biography

Alexander Nikolayevich was born in 1951 in the village of Podorvikha, but he did not spend much time in the Irkutsk region. Already in his childhood he moved with his parents to Poland, where he went to primary school. He graduated it in Turkmenistan, on the way studying in other cities and countries. He then goes to Gorky University, where he studies history. In parallel with student life, the future director works on television and releases his first programs on air. In 1974, there are two significant events in his life: he defends a diploma, and on television screens the documentary "Most Earthly Cares", with which the filmography of Sokurov began. Next year, he enters the faculty of directing VGIK, where he makes great strides. However, because of the conflict with the administration, Alexander Sokurov, whose films were perceived as anti-Soviet, passes the exams externally and ends his studies on this.

Early Creativity

The first feature film, entitled "The Lonely Voice of Man", which was supposed to be a diploma, was not allowed to be defended, but later he found a response in the hearts of critics and received several festival awards. During this period, Alexander Sokurov actively communicates with Andrei Tarkovsky, who helps him get a job at Lenfilm. This period was marked for him by a great rise in creative activity, and all subsequent years the director removes a lot of gaming and documentary films, which received many awards at various film festivals. Even before the turn of the century, Sokurov's filmography grew to a gigantic size, and he himself was recognized as a master of his craft and even included in the list of the best directors of the world.

Documentary film

The documentary genre has always been of greatest interest to the director. This is exactly what he started with, and the number of such paintings has always surpassed the game. Historical education left its mark on the author's works. He masterfully knows how to cover facts with the help of such an artistic composition, which is unique, worked out personally by him. More than 30 documentary films were presented to the world by Alexander Sokurov. Films about St. Petersburg occupy a special place among them. He made a whole documentary cycle called "Petersburg Elegy", as well as "Leningrad Retrospective" and 3 pictures from the "Petersburg Diary" series, each of which is devoted to a separate topic. Creativity of the director is closely connected with military and political motives, and his views were often criticized during the Soviet era, so many of his works were born thanks to the attraction of foreign capital.

Feature Films

Sokurov's filmography is not limited to just one genre. For his long career, he did not shoot only comedies, which he absolutely does not like. Among the most successful paintings can be attributed such as "Father and Son", "Russian Ark", "Alexandra", "Mother and Son", which were highly appreciated by critics and received all sorts of prizes. A separate mention is deserved by the famous tetralogy, which includes Moloch, Taurus, Sun and Faust. All these films are united by common themes and motives, which together form a complex theme of insanity and its stages. As Sokurov himself says, the existence of each of them does not make sense without the others. He shot them for a long 12 years, while constantly working on other projects.

"Francophonie"

It took 4 years after the filmography of Sokurov replenished with his joint work with Jankowski under the title "We need happiness", and at the Venice Festival the last documentary film of the director "Francophonie. Louvre under the German occupation ", which caused a storm of emotions and admiration. In Russia, the premiere took place in the framework of the international film festival "Message to Man". It was planned that he would not get to the rental, but not so long ago information appeared that the film would still show domestic audiences. His plot unfolds around the world-famous museum in wartime. It was filmed with the participation of France, Holland and Germany, and the actors in it, respectively, involved European. When he appears on the wide screens, until even Alexander Sokurov himself can say. The photo with the shots from the film is for today the only thing that admires the creators of the director's work.

Other activities

In addition to the director's chair, there are other areas where Alexander Sokurov has succeeded over many years of creative wanderings, whose biography and films deserve far more than a brief and more detailed description. His record includes four theatrical productions, among them "Boris Godunov" and "Northern Gardens". He also conducted his own program about the movie "Sokurov Island" for 10 years. In Nalchik, Sokurov's studio was opened in one of the creative universities, and on the basis of Lenfilm there is a studio of documentary and feature films "Bereg" under his guidance. The number of awards received by him is not amenable to calculation because of their huge number. At the moment, the director lives in St. Petersburg, where he also acts in a group of activists to protect the old part of the city. And his contribution to world cinema can not be called otherwise than epoch-making.
