Madelunga syndrome: causes, methods of treatment and prevention

Double chin is a defect that can be associated with metabolic disorders or obesity. Sometimes it's just an individual feature of the body. But in a number of cases, a rapid increase in the number of fat deposits is evidence of a serious Madelung disease. The syndrome can not threaten life, but leads to the development of psychological complexes.

Features of the disease

A type of lipomatosis is Madelung's disease. The syndrome develops because of the disturbance of metabolic processes in the body, as a result of which fats are distributed incorrectly, there are extensive deposits in the neck.

The syndrome was first described in 1888 by the physician Madelung - hence the corresponding name.

On the neck appears a lipoma, which gradually increases, reaching a huge size. If you do not seek medical help in a timely manner, Madelunga syndrome will result in the patient not being able to turn his neck fully, there will be pain.

To a greater extent, this disease affects older people of both sexes. In children, the pathology is practically not diagnosed.

Causes

Why is Madelunga developing (syndrome)? Today no one can answer this question accurately. However, there are a number of factors that can contribute to the development of pathology:

  1. This primarily includes heredity. If this pathology was observed in the father or mother, there is a possibility of the formation of such fatty deposits after reaching a certain age and in the child.
  2. In addition, the triggering mechanism for the development of the disease can be hormonal disorders in the body.
  3. People with alcohol and drug addiction are at risk.
  4. Violation of metabolic processes in the body can provoke nervous overstresses and stresses. Often lipomatosis, including Madelunga syndrome, whose treatment requires a special approach, is diagnosed in women who constantly sit on diets. As a result of malnutrition, fat begins to be deposited not where it is needed.

Symptomatics

Initially, the patient may notice numerous fat seals in the lymph nodes of the neck. Unfortunately, at this stage few people attach importance to unpleasant symptoms without seeking medical help. Within a few months, the neck can significantly increase in size. As a result, there is shortness of breath and pain.

If the fatty tissue grows deep layers of the epidermis, there are accompanying symptoms such as tachycardia, headaches, epileptic seizures.

If there is a hereditary factor, it is worth studying the details of the Madelung syndrome. Treatment and symptoms, prevention methods - all this information is important.

Treatment of the disease

Of great importance is a timely diagnosis that allows you to determine why the fat tissue began to expand rapidly. Based on the information received, the specialist appoints a therapy consisting of hormonal, detoxification and anti-inflammatory drugs. But it will not be possible to get rid of large fat cells without surgical intervention, so the patient is preparing for surgery.

There are several options for removing large limes on the neck. The most accessible and inexpensive method is simple excision under general anesthesia. Such operations are performed in most state medical institutions. But surgical intervention is considered quite traumatic. With large fat deposits, there is a possibility of scarring and scarring. And within a few days after the operation, the patient is given antibacterial therapy in order to avoid infection.

Less traumatic is the endoscopic removal of lipomas on the neck. However, this method is suitable only if there are small fat deposits. In private clinics I also practice surgical interventions using a laser.

Unfortunately, the removal of benign education is not a guarantee that Madelung syndrome will not return in the future. The prevention of relapses is the rejection of excessively fatty foods and alcohol, as well as the management of a healthy lifestyle in general. To cure the disease more quickly, if you seek help at an early stage.
