Landras - a breed of pigs, the best for bacon swine breeding

Pig farming is one of the most profitable branches of agriculture. Given how much pork is consumed in the modern world, it does not surprise anyone. For a beginner pig, it is very important to decide what kind of animals it is going to grow (meat, meat-sebaceous or solely for bacon), and to assemble a quality herd. Of the bacon lines, the most successful is landrace, a breed of pigs, the most common and well established in the world. In the presence of both advantages and disadvantages, the former clearly prevail.

Origin and characteristics

Considering that landrace is a breed of pigs that was bred in Denmark relatively recently in the first half of the last century, its popularity can be estimated already by rapid spread. Animals belong to the bacon type, that is, in their carcass subcutaneous fat is represented by a very thin layer, but rather lean meat is extremely large. While many people in the modern world prefer low-fat meat, such a composition of the carcass is an added plus. Competent long-term selection led to the fact that now landrace is a breed of pigs, whose representatives, under equal conditions of maintenance and the same type of destination, gain more weight than representatives of other breeds. It is noteworthy that the internal organs of these pigs are again better.

The appearance of landrace

Pigs have an elongated trunk, a straight back, a flat, broad and dense ham. The ears are limp, long, somewhat obscure. Bristles are rare, white; The skin is very thin. The uterus has an average weight of about a quarter of a ton, boars gain 300 kg, sometimes more.

Advantages

Landras is a breed of pigs, whose reviews mostly range from positive to enthusiastic. First of all, the uterus is very prolific: less than a dozen piglets are born very rarely, and sometimes their number reaches 15-20. Survival at the right content is also very high: losses rarely reach even 10%; In most cases, before weaning from the uterus, everyone survives.

The next positive indicator that Landrace has - a breed of pigs (photo) is very early. Piglets at a monthly age already have a weight of up to 8-10 kg with an initial of 1.7, and when weaning, they can gain it to a mark of 20 kg.

Pigs of this breed are very hardy and vigorous; They are very easy to acclimatize, during which the weight does not unambiguously decrease, and in half the cases, its growth continues, albeit at a slower rate.

It is worth noting the quality of bacon, which gives Landrace (a breed of pigs). Its characteristic is extremely positive: in carcasses there is a higher content of lean high-quality meat (the figure often reaches 5%) and a noticeably thinner layer of subcutaneous fat than in other species.

Disadvantages of the breed

From a physical point of view, they include backward wagging and weak tanks. Some domestic pig producers also believe that landrace is a breed of pigs, targeted bacon selection has weakened their constitution somewhat. As a result, mature boars have a chest circumference of 157 cm with a body length of 175, that is, it is too shallow and narrow.

However, the main drawback of landrace can be considered their capriciousness with respect to content. If in nursing or fattening even minor mistakes are allowed, the fertilization of sows falls sharply. And if fertilization has occurred, the number of piglets in the litter will be much smaller.

Landrace participation in breeding

Even if we do not take into account the contribution of breeders to the creation of new breeds, even the simple improvement of the existing ones, which is achieved with the help of the Landrace boars, deserves high praise. In sows, the multiplicity increases by 10 percent (the lowest point is 5 percent), the number of piglets rises by the same number - and this is accompanied by a decrease in feed costs. At the same time, the content of meat in the carcass also increases, although not so much - up to 7%. Of the new internationally recognized breeds, we can name the French and Norwegian Landrace and the Estonian bacon.

Feeding rules

Landras is a breed of bacon-type pigs, so it's better to forget the usual ideas about slops from the master's kitchen. Do not fit and the usual food like oats and corn - they contribute to the deposition of fat, rather than nagging meat. The ideal grain for landrace will be barley, in second place - rye. Soy, cake, bran, schrot, sorghum are gradually added. There should be vegetables, greens, back, meat and bone meal. Fish is best not given at all - from it the meat acquires a specific smell. In extreme cases, it should be removed from the diet at least a month (and preferably two) before slaughtering.

No less important and the regime of feeding: the pig can not stop on time, which is why they overeat. The result: at best - obesity, at worst - poisoning. To feed them should be twice a day in the right amount, scraps from the troughs to clean. In winter, when the maintenance of heat of strength in pigs takes more, three meals a day is acceptable, but no more.

If you adhere to these rules, you will be economically and gastronomically pleased with Landrace - a breed of pigs whose photos show their meat qualities well.
