Rabbits, a white giant breed. Description, breeding and maintenance at home

In suburban household plots very often contains not only a different kind of poultry, but also rabbits. The breed of white giant is one of the most popular. It was bred in the early twentieth century in Belgium and Germany. In the USSR, these animals were imported in 1927.

History of the breed

The skins of white rabbits were always appreciated higher than ordinary gray or black skins. After all, such a fur can be painted completely in any color. At the beginning of the last century, guided by the requirements of light industry, Belgian breeders set themselves the task of breeding a new breed of large rabbits with a white skin. Flanders were used as a basis. As a result, a new breed was obtained, characterized by its large size, absolutely white fur and a very delicate constitution of the body.

Severe climatic conditions in Russia were not very suitable for animals of this breed. Therefore, domestic breeders had to improve it. After the crossing of Belgian individuals with the Soviet chinchilla and gray giant, domestic rabbits of the white giant breed were bred. Photos of these strong, healthy and hardy animals you can see on the page. Domestic giants are unpretentious, relatively well tolerated by the cold and intense heat.

Features of the breed

The characteristic features of rabbits of this breed are:

  • White skin and red eyes;
  • Dense thick hairline;
  • Rounded croup, elongated trunk and well developed chest (with a dewlap);
  • Wide straight back;
  • Straight, slightly rounded at the ends of the ears.

These are actually very large rabbits. The breed is a white giant - one of the largest of all bred to date. The length of the body of adults can reach 60 cm, the girth of the chest - 37 cm. By weight, white giants are divided into three classes:

  • The first - up to 5.3 kg;
  • The second - up to 4.8 kg;
  • Elite - up to 5.8 kg.

One of the unconditional advantages of this breed is sufficiently high fertility. Owners of farms that contain such rabbits do not experience any difficulties with their breeding. Female white giants never eat their offspring. In the litter on average, there are usually 6-9 rabbits, which is very good for a large breed. White giants are rather hardy animals, simple in content. Young growth is growing very quickly and gaining lethal weight by four months. Overdose rabbits of this breed is undesirable. Otherwise, the meat will be covered with fat and lose some of its dietary properties.

How to hold matings

Of course, increasing the number of livestock is one of the main purposes of keeping animals such as rabbits on the backyard. The breed of white giant in breeding is very simple. However, in order to herd replenished healthy, well-developed young, some rules must still be observed. You can not conduct the first mating until the animals are six months old. Later, the reduction of rabbits is also not recommended. Otherwise, they can burn. Carry out the mating in the usual way. That is, the female is inserted into the cage to the male, not vice versa.

White giant - a breed of rabbits, the crossing of which usually gives the result from the first time. However, after two weeks, the procedure should be repeated, just in case.

The female bred for about a month. She can bring up to 14 young (and all to feed). But the number of gems in such numbers among giants are still rare. Usually the female gives birth to no more than 9-10 rabbits. With their mother they hold at least two months. Prehistoric prehumans earlier develop poorly and gain weight.

Cells and enclosures

The better conditions are created on the farm, the more rabbits will develop more actively. The white giant breed is very large and also quite mobile. Therefore, cells for these animals should be chosen large and large. The exact size depends on the class of animals. But in any case, the rabbit should be able to get up in the cage at full height and make 2-3 leaps in it.

White giant - a breed of rabbits, the description of which was given a little higher, not too good for drafts. Therefore, keep animals either in closed cells on three sides with thick plywood or in sheds. The cover of the queen cell is usually made folding. This makes it easy to inspect the nest when the rabbit appears. We need cells not only for females with an offspring, but also for male producers (each separately), and for growing young animals.

To diseases, these rabbits, like most other breeds, are not too stable. Therefore, the cells must be kept clean. Disinfection is carried out at least twice a year.

Sometimes white giants are kept in enclosures. The latter should also be large enough - a height of at least a meter, an area of at least 80 x 80 cm.

Features of feeding

Their diet should be varied. White giant - the breed of rabbits is large, and these animals grow quickly. Therefore, there must be a lot of proteins in their food. In addition to grass, hay and root crops, animals need to give concentrated feed. Also willing to eat white giants are the remains of bread, cereals and much more. It is necessary to put in the cells or aviary branches of fruit trees, elm, karagach, alder, birch, etc. Droblenka most suitable for barley or oatmeal. Buy it from trusted suppliers. Through the feed very often all sorts of rabbit infectious diseases are transmitted.

In cages, animals must always have clean water. Feed these animals three times a day. Grass and branches are usually put in a cage or in an enclosure in the evenings. It is important not to allow rabbits to eat poisonous plants for them. Beginning rabbit breeder must know what kind of grass is contraindicated to these animals. These include, for example, spurge, all kinds of nightshade, celandine, dope, bleached.

Care of young animals

The rabbits begin to leave the mother liquor at the age of about 3-4 weeks. At the same time, you can start feeding them with small crushed crumbs and crumbs. You do not need to develop a special diet. The likelihood of bowel disorders in the gills, while they are on the sieve, is very small, and they eat the same as the rabbit.

Take the kids away from the mother no earlier than 2 months, and best of all in 3. The diet should be kept the same. It is necessary to change the composition of feeds very carefully. The new food is introduced into the diet, adding the dose gradually over about two weeks. Weight these rabbits (a breed of white giant), the breeding of which is nothing particularly complicated does not represent itself, is gaining very quickly. However, if there is insufficient or unbalanced monotonous nutrition, such troubles as developmental delays, yellowing of the skin, etc., are possible. Rabbits are generally animals whose feeding should be approached with the utmost responsibility. It is from this that the success of their breeding depends to a large extent.

Slaughter rabbits

White giant - a breed of early rabbits. Slaughterhouse age, young, as already mentioned, reaches 4-5 months. They kill animals in the household farm, usually by striking a stick on the occipital part. Pre-take the rabbit's hind legs and wait for him to calm down. This method is considered the most humane. With a sharp blow to the neck of the animal, vertebrae break down and the nervous system is cut off, and consequently, it does not feel pain.

Before slaughter from the animal's cage, the drinking bowl, hay and feeder are removed (for 12 hours). The intestine and bladder should be free.

Cutting

The mortified rabbit is hung on the crossbar behind the hind legs. Skin is cut around the hock muscles and along the inner side of the thighs. Then it is removed like a stocking. Head rabbit can be chopped immediately after killing. In this case, the blood will merge more, and the carcass will look better.

Cutting is done as follows:

  • Using a sharp knife, gently, so as not to damage internal organs, the abdominal cavity is cut.
  • Carefully remove the bladder.
  • The intestine is cut at the anus. Then it should be pulled on itself, cutting off other organs. Under the carcass, you must first put the pelvis. The stomach and intestines of a rabbit are quite heavy and under their own weight they will simply fall down.
  • The next stage removes the esophagus and part of the trachea.
  • Then the gallbladder is cut from the liver. You need to do this carefully.

Weigh four-month-old animals about 4-4.5 kg. White giant - a breed of rabbits, the yield of which is about 50% of the weight of the carcass.

What to do with the skin

Grow white giants not only for meat. Skins of these animals are very large and beautiful. The time of slaughter in this case is determined by the state of the hairline. Juvenile kill usually after the second molt. In this case the skin is also removed with a stocking. It is very difficult to produce it completely at home. Therefore, taken skins are usually simply preserved. Then they can be handed over to a fur factory or private traders. Preservation is done by drying on the rules. The skin is pulled gently, so that there is no wrinkling left on it.

As you can see, these wonderful rabbits (a breed of white giant), breeding and keeping at home which is not too difficult, animals are not particularly whimsical. The main thing is to feed the animals well and keep the cells or aviary clean. In this case, rabbits quickly gain weight, and the skin of them will be pure white, without yellowness.
