Today Kotka is of great importance in creating the conditions necessary for the export of wood materials abroad. But that's not all.

Now it is also one of the largest Finnish cargo ports, occupying a leading position in the field of transit traffic in the country. It is also known far beyond Finland, since ships are shipped all over the world, and the quality of local wood is valued even on the other side of the ocean.

It is believed that the rest in Kotka are sent only to the most tired travelers or complete romance. Especially a lot of newcomers are here at the very end of summer. Why? The fact is that at this time in the vicinity of Kotka a huge number of mushrooms and berries. You can wander around among the golden, yellow and purple trees, admire the breathtaking seascapes, marvel at the huge ships and dream with a cup of tea in some local cafe.

In Kotka there is a huge madarearium. This building is the pride of the inhabitants of the city. A lot of marine inhabitants live here in their natural environment. It is difficult to imagine that there are more than 50 species of fish in the Maretarium. And this, of course, is not the limit.

Inside the room are located just two aquariums. The depth of the large is 7 m. However, there are no coral fish habitual for such establishments, it is not worthwhile also to look narrowly. But the specimens that are found in the Baltic Sea are represented.

Sudak, whitefish, pike, roach, tench - this is not a complete list of the inhabitants of these wonderful aquariums. Water for filling them is taken in the Gulf of Finland.

By the way, you can feed large carp and perch right from your hands, plunging into depth with special equipment. Not only fish live in the maretarium. You can watch here and for frogs, newts and water snakes, which fall asleep in winter. There is a marine shop, if you wish, you can buy souvenirs.

The modern exhibition center of Vellamo

In the marine center of Vellamo, which was opened in 2008, many exhibitions are held. In the kiosk posted here you can buy gifts for memory, and in a restaurant and cafe - it's wonderful to relax.

The center has its own pier, which has a museum-icebreaker Tarmo, built in 1907. It is one of the oldest icebreakers on our planet. By the way, to delight both small and adult visitors, you can climb on it and stand on the captain's bridge. It is also advisable to go down to the internal premises to fully get to know the arrangement of the engine room.

In a nearby hangar, visitors are pleased to see a patrol boat, a lifeboat and a collection of engines for boats.

Kotka. Attractions from the world of nature

The wonderful nature of Finland attracts many travelers. Any time of the year is amazingly beautiful in the Sapokka water park. This environmentally friendly facility is recognized throughout the world as a remarkable creation of stone.

Many are interested in why the park has such a name, and what attracts a huge number of tourists. The fact is that the Sapokka Park is surrounded by bays. In shape, they resemble a boot, properly speaking, that's why the place got its name - Sapokka, which in Russian means "boot".
