Konstantin Glukhov: Latvian MMA star and kickboxing

Russian athletes are always included in the strongest cohort in the whole world. And the key role here is played by nationality, because the Russian spirit is the basis of diligent and persistent work in training, multiplied by purposefulness and stunning physical data. This article is about a person who is not a citizen of the Russian Federation, but at the same time he is neither a real Russian, just born and living in the Baltic. His name is Konstantin Glukhov. Let's take a closer look at his sports life.

Birth

The current MMA star was born on January 17, 1980 in Jurmala (Latvia). Konstantin Glukhov showed an early interest in various martial arts. According to the athlete himself, he was never offended by anyone, and with general physical training he also had order, and love of fights arose by itself. Although the guy does not hide, the inner feeling that one must learn self-defense, he never leaves.

Choosing a Sports Direction

Initially, Konstantin Glukhov drew attention to boxing, but later he did not like him. But the kickboxing fell in love with the fighter, because there you could actively use your feet during the fight. This nuance played a decisive role, since Kostya was also engaged in gymnastics, and therefore had a wonderful stretch and a strong body.

Parents' opinion

Athlete's mom always was against his hobbies, believing that he must be weaned at university and get proper education. As a result, the fighter found a solution that suited everyone: he continued training, and in parallel with them he graduated from the Polytechnic Institute and obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in programming. Thus, Konstantin Glukhov is a sufficiently versatile person, breaking the pattern that combat athletes are intellectually limited.

Career in kickboxing

Being in the status of an amateur, the Latvian has repeatedly won world championships both in kickboxing and in Thai boxing. After sixty fights in amateurs, in 2001 Kostya switches to a professional ring.

In 2006, the athlete, along with his colleagues in the national team of the country, won the world tournament in the so-called universal battle. After a while, the guy takes part in the tournament draw under the name Masters Fight Night Heavyweight, where it comes to the final fight.

A year later, Glukhov is fighting for the title of world champion in Sochi against the representative of Belarus Alexei Kudin. And again, the Baltic man loses and is inferior to the WBKF title.

But the real high point to the Latvian came on November 22, 2008. That day, the athlete was able to consistently knock out three of his opponents and win the world Grand Prix K-1, which was held in Riga.

In March 2009, Konstantin Glukhov, height, weight, whose statistics inspire respect, took part in the tournament held in Moscow. In the course of persistent battles, he eventually lost in the final match to Pavel Zhuravlev and could not try on the world champion belt. We will separately indicate the dimensions of Glukhov: his weight is 116 kilograms, and the height is 190 centimeters.

Fights in mixed fights

Every fight by Konstantin Glukhov is a real show. His fights rarely end up with a judging decision, and therefore he is very interesting to the audience.

His first fight on the rules of the MMA athlete held September 16, 2006 against Finn Backman. The debut for the Baltic turned out to be successful - he won. However, in general, his career resembles a swing, swinging from side to side. To date, the fighter has a rather ambiguous statistics. Konstantin Glukhov won in 29 fights, but lost in 16.

Of the strengths of the athlete is to highlight, of course, his excellent percussion technique. But at the same time, the skills of classical, free- style wrestling or Sambo are completely absent from him. He is not able to effectively defend himself from the pass of the opponent to his feet, very badly selected from the stalls in the rack. However, in fairness, we note that the Latvian is still a very dangerous fighter and even was able to win the Ultimate Cage Fighters Championship 4 tournament, which was held in Vienna in December 2010. This victory filled Constantine's pocket with twenty thousand euros. Also from the most significant victories of the soldier it is worth noting his winnings from the American Kenny Garner and the legend of the world MMA of the Dutchman Valentine Overeem (sibling no less famous in the field of mixed fights of Alistair Overeem, speaking in the USA). The last victory of the Latvian is dated May 14, 2016. On that day, the fighter won by unanimous decision Tony Lopez.

As for his private life, Glukhov married in 2014.

The further development of an athlete's career depends entirely on him. As he has repeatedly said in his interviews, his ultimate goal will be moving across the ocean and performing in leading promotions of the world, such as UFC, BELLATOR. In his personal opinion, it is in these most powerful sports organizations that one can truly grow in the skill of a warrior, gain worldwide fame and recognition, and earn big money.
