Kingisepp: attractions, photos
Today, when the crisis has made foreign tours inaccessible to many Russians, excursions to the vast expanses of our country come to the forefront. For example, Kingisepp is an excellent choice. The sights of this city are numerous and interesting, therefore such a journey will bring a lot of pleasure to everyone who is interested in the history of Russia.
Ruins of the fortress
The city of Kingisepp, or, as it was called by our ancestors, Yam (later Yamburg), was founded in 1384 year. He repeatedly became the object of claiming the Swedish crown and finally withdrew to Russia only in 1721 on the Nystadt peace treaty.
Like many settlements in the Northwest of Russia, Yam emerged around the fortress, which was located near the confluence of the Luga River in the Gulf of Finland. In the 16th century it was dismantled and a new stone citadel was built. In the second half of the 17th century, the fortress was blown up by the Swedes, and it was not restored any more, so today tourists can see only fragments of fortress fortifications. However, judging by the reviews, even these fragments make an indelible impression.
Temple of Our Lady of Sorrows
The church was built according to the project of the famous architect KI Brandt and was consecrated in 1858 in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" and in the name of St. Peter the Metropolitan. For many years it was the regimental temple of the Kexholm regiment. Today from the church there were only ruins, next to which there is an ancient cemetery.
Town Hall
The main question that worries those who decide whether to go to the banks of the Luga River - what can you see in Kingisepp? It will be difficult to see the sights of the city in one short trip. Therefore, you should choose the most interesting objects. Among them, a special place is occupied by the Town Hall, built in the Romanesque style in 1910. Because of the revolutionary events and the civil war, the construction dragged on until 1934, therefore, instead of the city services, the Turkestan regiment was originally stationed there. During the war, the Town Hall was demolished, and only 15 years later, restoration works were started, thanks to which the city was returned one of its most beautiful architectural sites. For tourists who come to Kingisepp, its visit is an obligatory part of the excursion program. At the same time, the reviews show that, against the backdrop of the town hall, great images are obtained for the tourist album.
The Museum
Want to see all the sights of Kingisepp? The guide can be purchased at the kiosk of the local museum, which was founded in 1960. Initially, the exposition was located in the church of St. Catherine, but after the building was transferred to the ROC in 1990, it was moved to the old building of a commercial school. Visiting the museum, you can see the exhibits telling about the history of Yamburg, as well as what was happening in the territory of Kingisepp district during the Second World War. In addition, a huge interest in visitors is caused by the exhibition "Stop, moment." It is framed in the form of a photo salon of the beginning of the 20th century and there you can see ancient photographs on which Kingisepp, sights and residents of Yamburg are captured.
The Bronze Lion
What else can Kingisepp surprise? Sights there come across at every turn. At least, so write in their reviews those who have already visited this city. For example, in the local park there is a magnificent monument in the form of a bronze lion. It was erected in honor of the hero of the Patriotic War of 1812 , KI Bystrov. Previously, this place was a manor of a veteran, where he was buried. The bronze lion leans against the ball, which embodies the statehood. Thus, the author of the monument decided to show that during his lifetime General Bistrov served the Russian state and always stood for his defense.
With a bronze lion from the tomb of General Bistrov, a real detective story is connected. So, the old-timers say that in 1919 they wanted to send him to the remelting, however, having dropped it from the pedestal, they could not load onto the car because of the heavy weight. So, the monument remained in the ditch until one of the employees of the People's Commissariat of Education saw him and ordered him to be returned to the place as a museum object. Later German occupants took him to Riga, but local workers buried the lion and after the war returned the sculptural composition to its rightful place.
Cathedral of St. Catherine
This temple is one of the most significant architectural structures of the city. It is distinguished by its exceptional beauty and majesty. That is why those who come to Kingisepp (Leningrad region), whose sights are known even outside of our country, primarily seek to capture the memory of its blue domes.
The temple was built in the Baroque style by Antonio Rinaldi . The permission for the construction of a new stone church in the city of Yamburg was given by Catherine II herself, and soon a church appeared in the city, the interior and exterior decoration of which struck with grace and luxury. In 1934 the church was closed, and the building was used as a military warehouse. The further fate of the church was even more tragic, since the temple was almost completely destroyed during the war. Only in 1965 the church was rebuilt, and the first service there took place in 2000.
Exterzigauz
The main thing that attracts tourists Kingisepp, - attractions. For example, there you can see an old exergy plant. This military construction was built to conduct military exercises in inclement weather, with it was built the church of St. George. In 1904, the building suffered from a fire, and in 1918 it was decided to close the temple. Later, the building was rebuilt and housed in it by the Turkestan Regiment of the Red Army, and since 1966 it has been used as the location for the Kingisepp Children's and Youth Sports School.
The Trinity Church of the Life-Giving
This temple on Parusinka was built on the donations of a family of well-known patrons of art Stiglitz. He suffered badly during the construction of the hydroelectric power station on the Luga River. However, today the Church of the Trinity of the Life-giving is returned to the RIC, and restoration work is currently under way there . The building is an excellent example of a cult structure in psevdodrevnerovskom style and is considered one of the most beautiful in Kingisepp district.
House of IA Sakharov
If you come to Kingisepp, the sights (a photo of some of them are presented above) should be sought in the historical center of the city. For example, there you can see "ironing". Such a name the inhabitants of the city gave the House of IA Sakharov. It has an interesting architecture, but it did not have a better destiny. After all there during the war the Gestapo was located, in the dungeons of which not one dozen residents of the city were tortured.
Now you know what Kingisepp might surprise you with. Sights (reviews about them are only admired) are also known to you, so just buy a ticket and go to explore this most interesting corner of the Russian land.
