"Kalina 2 Sport" - a compact car with a sporting character

The car "Lada Kalina 2 Sport" is a popular VAZ-1119 in the sports version. An experienced copy was collected and presented to a wide audience in May 2008. The car was preparing for serial production in two versions: "Kalina Sport 2 - 1.4" and "Kalina Sport 2 - 1.6". The last numbers in the model name mean the total volume of the cylinders. The first model passed certification and state acceptance in July 2008. The second, more powerful, was certified on September 4 of the same year.

Production start

By the end of July 2008, the release of the Kalina 2 Sport 1.4 model was about 80 units, which went directly from the assembly shop to major Russian cities, including Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, Krasnoyarsk, Perm, Voronezh and Ulyanovsk. Factory capacity allowed to produce about 2.5 thousand cars a year, this number was focused on consumers. However, the plans were preliminary and could change in the direction of increase or decrease, depending on demand.

Features

The car "Kalina 2 Sport 1.4" was almost a complete analogue of the model "Lada Kalina" in a luxury version. External differences were insignificant: the bumper of the changed form, door moldings, a shaped nozzle on the muffler, a badge on an end face of a luggage door. Inside, the changes were more radical: the scale of all the instruments became white, and the backlight was muted orange. The interior space was artificially darkened, the sports pedestals were put on the pedals, the ergonomics were added to the seats due to the support sidewalls and the modified backrest configuration.

Design Features

Model "Lada Kalina 2 Sport" - front-wheel drive, with a transverse arrangement of the power plant. The car is sufficiently developed in terms of characteristics, the VAZ-21126 engine, with the electronic adjustment of the injection of the fuel mixture. Planting machine is understated by 20 mm due to pre-heat shrinkage of springs. Given the sporty nature of the car, the front wheels were allowed to change the castor within 3 degrees at the factory standard of 1.5. A wider adjustment amplitude gives the machine stability. Straightening the course when driving at high speed is also facilitated by a small negative degree of camber of the rear wheels. All together provides the car with stability during the passage of sharp turns.

Brake system and wheels

The disc brake system on all wheels, the front wheels of the brand "Alnas" with a diameter of 282 mm, the rear wheels - Lucas TRW. The ABS system is not provided, apparently, the manufacturer considered that at the wheel of the sports car will sit an experienced rider, who drifts at nothing. "Lada Kalina 2 Sport" is equipped with regular cast wheels 15 inches in size. On the spare wheel is a very expensive drive. Engine

Power plant - gasoline engine VAZ 21126 in two versions: a four-cylinder with 16 valves and the same motor, but with 8 valves. The power is different (87 and 106 hp), the fuel consumption is also not the same - in the city, the 16-valve burns 8 liters per 100 kilometers, and its more modest fellow is only 7 liters. So everything is relative.

Transmission

Transmission is also of two types: a mechanical 5-speed gearbox and a 4-speed "automatic", which somewhat reduces the dynamic characteristics of the car. And since "Lada Kalina Sport 2" technical characteristics has those that indicate its sporting purpose, then any slowdown looks somewhat illogical. But the gear ratios in the gearbox are well matched. The car goes smoothly in any mode, switching speeds is not felt. Advantages and disadvantages

The level of safety of the car leaves much to be desired, as in the cabin there is not a single emergency cushion, and this in the sports model looks like a flaw. Thanks to the electromechanical power steering of the South Korean firm Mondo, it is easy to drive the car, the wheels themselves keep the road, and the driver only has to adjust the traffic lightly. The steering mechanism is rack and pinion, structurally reliable and maintenance-free, the lubricant remains in the sealed housing for an infinitely long time.

The length in millimeters is 3905, the width is 1700 mm and the height is about 1500 mm. The wheelbase is 2475 mm, the rear wheels are 1410 mm, the front wheels are 1430 mm. Clearance (ground clearance) is 140 mm in relative terms and can vary within 20 mm. The volume of the trunk is 235 cubic decimeters. The weight of the equipped car makes 1080 kgs. The total weight is 1555 kilograms.
