Kakhovskaya HPP: general information, history and current state of the facility

To date, hydroelectric power plants are still an indispensable link in the energy sector of most states. Of course, some of them were replaced by nuclear substations, but the basic ones are still the HPP. In the territory of Ukraine, such methods of providing the population with electricity are the most common. And it is about one of the Ukrainian stations that will be discussed.

General information about the hydroelectric power station

Kakhovka HPP is one of the ten largest Ukrainian hydroelectric power stations, located in the south of the country, in the Kherson region. The power plant was built on the Dnieper and is one of the branches of the open joint-stock company "Ukrhydroenergo".

The Kakhov hydro power plant includes the following:

  • Assembly room of the hydroelectric station itself;
  • A structure for draining the water;
  • Ship lock (single-chamber);
  • Earth dam;
  • Electric installation for receiving and distributing electricity;
  • Transport for cars and trains (transport infrastructure).

The station's power (total) is about 351 MW. The average annual output reaches 1,489 million kW / h.

Kakhovka HPP is provided with equipment from Kharkov and Zaporozhye plants. Among the units from these industries are rotary-blade turbines, synchronous generators and transformers. Due to the high quality of installed instruments, Kakhovka HPP has been successfully operating to this day.

Hydrotechnical construction erected along the perimeter of the hydroelectric complex formed over time a reservoir. It exists and still functions. In addition, this facility is the source of water supply throughout the southern part of Ukraine. That is, enterprises, factories, as well as residential and industrial sites directly depend on the Kakhovka water reservoir.

Kakhovka HPP in 2001 had 173 employees in its staff. It is likely that these data have long changed, but the actual information in the public domain could not be found. Usually there is no high turnover of such objects on such objects.

The erection of the energy object

The history of the Kakhovka hydropower plant dates back to the post-war years. This object was one of the projects of the Great Construction of Communism. In addition, this fact led to the appearance of a hydroelectric power station on the postage stamps of the USSR.

The construction of the Kakhovka HPP was started in 1950. The Ministers of the Soviet Union introduced this project in the number of compulsory for erection due to the need to provide a decent number of areas with electricity. It was because of the construction of the hydroelectric power station that the Novaya Kakhovka settlement was created: workers and personnel were living there who were involved in the construction.

At the time of the erection of the facility, about 12 thousand people were employed. In addition, an impressive array of equipment, from cars to locomotives and dredgers, was involved in construction.

By 1956 the erection was completed. The last unit was put into operation, a reservoir has already been created. That is, in six years the hydroelectric power plant has managed to rebuild and enter the number of substations that feed most regions in their environment. The result is considerable.

Today's state of HPPs

In 1996, work began on the restoration and reconstruction of the hydroelectric complex. To date, the indicators for electricity generation, as well as the operating life of the units have increased significantly and allow us to move further. If it were not for a small accident at Kakhovka HPP, when the floods flooded due to the rising of water, then this hydroelectric power plant would remain the best of the best.

Later, in 2006, the road was restored on the territory of the Kakhovka HPP. In addition, the living quarters were rebuilt. However, this did not affect the improvement of existing facilities necessary for the immediate operation of the facility. If there is a breakthrough at Kakhovka HPP, the consequences will be very sad.

In 2010, this enterprise won first place in the rating "Conscientious taxpayer-2010". And this is among 800 similar plants, hydroelectric power stations and other facilities. By the way, among the criteria of good faith of the taxpayer, the willingness of management and personnel to take part in various charitable actions and events was taken into account.

Finally

Kakhovka HPP is a powerful and rather successful hydro power plant. However, for the normal functioning of the facility in the future, it is necessary to invest money not in cosmetic repairs and the construction of additional subsidiary buildings, but in replacing some equipment and restoring massive aggregates. Then the plant will last even longer, without accidents and threatening breakdowns.
