Jack Vettriano: life and work of the artist
Jack Vettriano is a Scottish artist who became rich and famous when in 1992 copies of his painting "The Singing Butler" became the most sold in the whole of Britain.
Youth
Jack Hoggen was born on 11/17/1951 in the industrial seaside town of Methyl in the county of Fife. He grew up in a poor family. He lived with his father, mother and elder brother, with whom he had to sleep in the same bed. From the age of 10, Jack began to make a living by helping the family. He was a courier who carried documents, delivered milk, washed windows, collected potatoes, that is, he was engaged in any work that could bring at least some money. Half of the earnings the father took from him, leaving a little pocket money. At the age of 16 Jack became a student of a mining engineer. Since the 70's as an entertainment, he began to draw when a girlfriend gave him a set of watercolors. His early paintings Jack Vettriano signed as Jack Hoggen. These were works in the Impressionist style. The first work was a copy of Monet, imitation of his "Poppy Fields". Most of all, he studied the paintings that are in the gallery and the museum Kirlkaldi. In 1984 Jack Vettriano first exhibited his painting in the company "Shell". In 1987, on the eve of his confession, Gail's wife left him. Jack was then 36 years old.
First exhibitions
In 1989, the artist presented two of his works at the Royal Scottish Academy at the annual show. Around this time, he took the name of his mother and began to sign his work as Jack Vettriano.
