Intentions are ... Good intentions. The word "intention"

It is clear why the question arises: "Intentions are what?" Because now there are too many words, a lot of terms and definitions borrowed, and if so, then you want to better understand your language, and this desire is commendable. Therefore, proceed.

Value

Intentions are man's desires, which have become something more than empty dreams, these are some supposed actions on the way to the set goal.

Perhaps, even for their implementation, there is already an internal plan. In the modern world, even Russian-speaking, "intention" is replaced by the word "motivation". And when they say low or high motivation, then you can understand whether this is a solid intention or an empty dream. True, people often use the words "desire" and "intention" as synonyms, so you can talk about different levels of determination in this case. But linguistic discussions are dry without vivid examples. Let's move on to them.

Illustration of intent

Petrov saw for the first time in life on the TV the Summer Olympic Games and suddenly suddenly wanted to become an athlete. At the same time, Petrov understands that his physical form is far from ideal, his stomach is too big and his hands are too thick. But he does not despair, on the contrary, the boy was determined to plead with his prayers and whims so that his parents went with him to the sports store and bought him a suitable inventory. We do not know this for certain, but, most likely, Petrov will succeed, because he made concrete steps towards the goal.

Example of an inactive desire

Another schoolboy is Sidorov. Just like Petrov, I watched the Summer Olympic Games and suddenly also suddenly wanted to become an athlete. He told all his relatives about this and said that tomorrow he would go to the sports section to sign up, he tried to extinguish his ardor and say that, in fact, summer is in the yard, and all sections are closed. But the guy is adamant. Parents, of course, happy because their son decided to go in for sports, but also a little uneasy, because before he had not shown such zeal and terribly loved sweet cakes, and now they will have to be abandoned.

But let the adults do not worry, because the days are passing, and Sidorov is not in a hurry to visit neither the athletics section, nor the gym. It turns out that his intentions are like this, empty dreams. Day after night he lies on the couch and dreams of the laurels of the winner of the Olympics.

As you wish, but we can not consider it as serious plans for the future. By the way, the difference in the behavior of the two schoolchildren brings us close to the question of what can be replaced by the word "intention." A synonym for him what?

Is the dream always empty?

There are several applicants for the title "Synonym of intention". Let's read the entire list:

  • Dream.
  • Plan.
  • Idea.
  • The idea.

We used to think that a dream is something airy, light and, frankly speaking, having a weak relation to reality. But this is not the opinion of AG Maklakov, the author of the textbook on general psychology, he believes that the dream is the image of the future result. Therefore, dreamers are not such a lost people, as people think. But seriously, the "dreams" are not suitable for the role of a synonym for the word "intentions." It's too light, from the point of view of the average person. And the author's interpretation of this or that concept is always possible, but it is not necessarily demanded and understood by the masses.

The next applicant is a "plan". From this word it bears reliability and stability. If "intention" can be replaced by "plan," then be calm, the aspirations of a person are serious. But the "plan" can only be a partial replacement, because the plan assumes already any concrete actions on the way to the goal. The intention may never come true.

"Idea" and "design" as synonyms. The idea of style is light, but you should not underestimate it, because a person who says: "I have an idea" - can be very serious and tomorrow starts with terrible force to implement the image that arose in his head. In general, both the "idea" and the "plan" express the same essence as the "intention" and have the same content. But do not rush, mindlessly replace one another, for in a language much depends on the context and style. Maybe, neither the "idea" nor the "idea" is suitable for replacement.

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions"

We pass to the philosophical part of our fascinating narrative. It remains to be seen, what is so bad intentions? Unfortunately, there simply will not be an answer.

Each person has his own ideas about good and evil, about good and bad. And usually people do something based on these very values. But since each view has its own, they inevitably enter into conflict, and sometimes even clinch with each other.

Of course, hell is mentioned in the expression in a metaphorical sense. The same was implied by J.-P. Sartre, when he wrote that "hell is different." The divergence in the notion of good and evil breeds the underworld of human relationships, in which all suffer incessantly.

However, these philosophical arguments are difficult to understand without a concrete example. Excuse me. The guy is friends with the girl, but his mother thinks that a young woman does not suit him. And my mother wants to quarrel all the young people, builds intrigues, in general, behaves not very worthy. But in the representation of the parent she provides the son with a service, because she wishes him only "good". Mom is interested in having "good", in her understanding, a daughter-in-law, and the son wants happiness. Their representations do not coincide - there is hell. But you can not argue that Mom's intentions are good, but they do not bring anything good.

So, we disassembled the meaning of the word "intention", as well as its synonym. We analyzed the phraseology "well-intentioned paved road to hell", we hope the reader was not too bored.
