Information for tourists: how to make a passport for a child

Often, novice travelers who decide to take a child on a trip abroad, the question arises as to how to make a passport to a child and whether it should be done at all. Perhaps there is enough record of this in the parent's passport? Let's understand.

Necessity or desire of parents?

In fact, it all depends on what kind of passport parents use. If the travel document is issued on paper (drawn up for a period of 5 years), then it will be enough to write about the child under 14 in the passport of one of the parents. There are also records in old passports issued before the spring of 2010. If the passport is biometric, there is no possibility to write a child into it, so in this case there is nothing left to do about how to make a passport to a child.

Advantages of a separate travel document for a child

If the record of the child is in the passport of only one parent, then he can not go abroad with the second. A separate child's passport is convenient because the child can travel with any of the relatives (if there is a document confirming the relationship). Another important advantage for children is that they can travel without accompanying their relatives, as part of organized groups, if they have their own travel document. To issue a child's passport, of course, is more expensive than simply adding a child to the parent, but from a practical point of view it is much more convenient. In addition, now the legislation of the Russian Federation allows a child of any age (since birth) to have his own travel document abroad.

How to make a passport for a child?

At first glance, there is nothing complicated in this, but this is only if you carefully follow all the established rules. The first thing you need to think about before you make a passport for your child is to collect all the necessary documents. You will need:

  • The birth certificate of the child;
  • Russian passport of the parent (or guardian);
  • Four photographs on a matte basis, measuring 3.5 x 4.5 or 3 x 4 cm;
  • Old overseas passport, if any, for replacement;
  • Application form-application form (you can fill in place);
  • Receipt (payment of state duty for registration: a regular passport - 300 rubles, a biometric - 1200 rubles).

It is advisable to prepare photocopies of all documents in advance (this will shorten the time, because you will still be asked to provide them). The process of registration (in the presence of a full package of documents) usually takes about 1 month. How to urgently make a passport for a child, if there is no time to wait? You can ask for help from intermediaries who have exits at the FMS, but usually their services for urgent registration of a passport are quite expensive (10 000 rubles and more).

What else needs to be considered?

Before deciding what type of passport to make a child - usual (for 5 years) or biometric (for 10), think about how your baby will look after these intervals. Perhaps it makes sense to save money and make a passport on paper, and then suddenly in 8-9 years, border guards simply do not recognize your child and will not be allowed to go abroad with you! Nevertheless, the decision on what document to do, as well as how to make a foreign passport (St. Petersburg, Moscow are full of offers of intermediaries), remains for the applicant.
