How to Plant Lilies Properly

Lilies are one of the most spectacular flowers grown in country cottages. Despite their external "tenderness", these plants are hardy enough and not too whimsical in care. Growing them is not difficult even for a beginner trucker. So, how to plant lilies?

Bulbs can be pre-germinated, and you can do without it. Plant lilies in both spring and autumn. Both of these methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Planted in the spring, the lilies bloom faster and give more shoots. However, during this period of time, the roots of the onion are thin and tender. Therefore, it is practically impossible to transport and plant the planting material in the garden without damaging it. And in this case, the plant may not bloom at all.

The autumn planting of lilies is devoid of this shortcoming. Frost tolerates the plant easily enough. Plant lilies can begin already in the second decade of August or in September. The depth of the pit depends on the size of the bulb. In order to determine it, it is necessary to multiply the diameter of the planting material by three. Usually it is 10 - 15 cm. As an unpretentious plant, the lily is not too demanding on the composition of the soil. However, it is better to add sand to the bed: on loose soils you can get more abundant flowering.

How to plant lilies - in the shade or in the sun - depends largely on the desire of the owner and the availability of free space. Flowers will grow well in either case. However, in sunny places the buds turn out to be larger. In addition, when grown with sufficient light, flowers are sorted like mother-of-pearl and look spectacular.

Delicate lily flowers need protection from the sun, as they can burn out. Therefore, when spring planting it is better to choose more shady places. In addition, you can simply lay the overgrown stem horizontally and prikopat earth. True, flowering in the same year is unlikely to be achieved, but the next lily will give a lot of buds.

Some owners of villas are interested in how to plant lilies to get a dense "hummock" from short plants. To do this, when planting the bulb, you just need to put it on your side. In this case, the escape will not go up, but to the side. If you want to grow tall flowers with large buds, planting is done in the usual way, that is, they keep the bottom of the bulb in the next layer of soil.

These flowers tolerate denseness very well. However, from time to time, it is still necessary to thin the beds. Lilies, which are also considered desirable in autumn, are carefully excavated and, cutting off the stem to a height of about 4 to 5 cm, are transferred to a new location. In this case, the hole is made of the same depth as usual, that is, 10-15 cm. After planting or transplanting, the plant requires abundant watering. Excess of moisture lilies can not stand. Therefore, in the future, they should be watered only during arid periods.

Weeds are not afraid of lily too much. The only problem can arise with the so-called birch (corncobble field). It is difficult to pierce it from thick, well-leafy stems. Flowering lilies experienced gardeners are advised to cut not too close to the ground. If you leave a long stem on the bulb, it will grow larger.

So, how to plant lilies, you now know, and to grow them on your site for you will not be difficult. These elegant plants can become a real decoration of the yard, garden or garden.
