How to make a heater yourself?

The need for warmth has been felt by us since ancient times. Another cave man was hiding in the skin from the cold, not suggesting that heat can be obtained in a variety of ways.

To date, the most affordable source of heat is an ordinary household outlet. But to convert electricity into heat, you need a special device that you can buy in the store or make with your own hands, which is much more interesting. Let's consider within this article some principles of electricity conversion to thermal, and also the feasibility of creating such devices.

Make a heater with your own hands is easy, but first you need to decide for what purposes you want to use it.

If you are going to heat a well-ventilated room, such as a garage or a workshop, then it's best for you to stay on heaters based on the principle of converting electricity to heat with a working fluid that heats up to high temperatures.

Heat in this case is transferred to the surrounding space with the help of a fan.

The power of such a device is enough to calculate according to Ohm's law and to design the device taking into account electrical and fire safety.

Try as a heating element to use ceramics, which is heated by Two metal plates. It is not difficult to make such a heater with your own hands and it will not take much time, most importantly, to plan the device body and fixing the parts in advance, and also to calculate the heater's power. If there are three phases in a garage or a private house, it is possible to design a more powerful device by connecting the heating elements according to the "star" scheme. In this case, the power consumption will increase, but you will be able to heat a large area.

If your goal is to design an economical heater with your own hands, then you need to follow a different principle: increase the area of the heating element and reduce the heating temperature. Take two sheets of plastic and apply one of them to the snake layer of graphite with epoxy glue. You should get a graphite conductor with as much area as possible, do not leave a lot of empty space on the plastic, try to fill the surface evenly. At the ends of the conductor we glue the copper plates and pull out the power cord. We put the second sheet of plastic and glue them together.

You have made an economical and durable heater with your own hands. Before switching on, be sure to check the resistance of the heater with an ohmmeter. A homemade heater must have a high ohmic resistance. If everything is in order, safely connect the device to the network. In normal mode, the surface temperature of the plastic should not exceed sixty degrees. For safety, the first time you turn on, you can use the voltage regulator, gradually increasing the voltage to nominal and monitoring the heater status.

Using this principle, it is possible to assemble a small interior heater of the car, having in advance thought out the design and the place of installation of the device itself. It will serve as an additional source of heat in the cabin in the cold winter.
