How to configure the context menu in Windows 7

In simple words about Windows, the context menu is the menu that appears on the screen when you right-click on the desktop or in Windows Explorer. When you right-click, this menu simply gives the user some limited list of actions.

Typically, developers of different software work in such a way that they include a lot of useless items in the configuration. As a result, regardless of your wishes, the more programs you download to your computer, the more confusing your context menu becomes. This causes certain difficulties.

Fortunately, there are several free utilities that you can use to clear your Windows context menu, removing all unnecessary entries that you definitely will not need.

The most popular option is ShellExView, a tool that scans the Windows registry and displays a full list of each shell extension installed on your PC. You can sort this list by "Type" and disable any of the items that you do not use, simply by pressing a button, and edit your context menu.

The problem with working with ShellExView is that this utility is too complex a tool for most ordinary PC users. Another good option is a simple context menu editor. This program was written for older versions of Windows, but it works great and is able to fine-tune the context menu of Windows 7.

With this editor you can easily remove links to any program from the context menu window. The only drawback is that these changes are irreversible, and you can not add deleted items back to the context menu.

Also, many experts recommend the FileMenu tool - it allows you to delete unnecessary items, but if you change your mind, you can always add them again. Open the program, switch to the "Commands from other applications" tab and delete all useless items.

In addition, if you want to include any actions of your choice in the context menu, you can help with this and the free utility File Menu. Since it is the simplest, it is worthwhile to touch on the process of setting it up and working.

So, how do I configure the context menu in Windows 7 using the File Menu?

First, you should download the FileMenu program and install it, following the instructions of the installation wizard. After the process is completed, FileMenu will be added to the context menu with the built-in list of actions, to view which you should right-click on any file, folder or empty space.

To make changes to FileMenu, run this program, and then a list of all possible actions with the default settings will open. To exclude an action from FileMenu, simply uncheck the box and click the Apply Changes button. This tool also allows you to add new commands, create submenus and swap various items according to user requirements.
