How to calculate the perimeter of a room for the purchase of finishing materials

When repairing an apartment or house there is a time when you need to know how much material you need to purchase. In order not to be mistaken with the volume, it is important to know how to calculate the perimeter of a room, its walls, floor and other surfaces.

Calculating the number of wallpapers

This issue arises almost at the very beginning of the repair, because you want to buy the right amount of rolls, so as not to feel shortage, but not to overpay for the excess. So, you need to know how to calculate the perimeter of the room.

What is a perimeter in general, everyone remembers from the school course is the sum of the lengths of all sides. If we are talking about the room, then - the walls. So, to calculate the perimeter, you need to find out the length of all the walls. It is very easy to do this: it is necessary to measure two adjacent ones and double the result. For example, if one wall has a length of 4 meters, the other 6, then its perimeter is 20 m: 2x (4 + 6) = 20.

Now you need to calculate how many rolls you need to purchase for such a room. In this situation, it is important not only to know how to calculate the perimeter of the room, but also to understand that it is also necessary to know the height of the ceiling. Suppose that in this case the room has a standard height of 2.5 meters.

Next, calculate the number of wallpaper that you want to purchase. Today, more and more popular wallpaper, the width of which is 1 meter. Take for example just such an option. The length of the roll remains standard - 10 meters.

Now, having all the necessary information, it is not difficult to calculate the required number of wallpapers.

It is best to show on the sample how to calculate the perimeter of the room. Examples are the best option for most buyers. So, with our dimensions, from one roll of wallpaper you will get four strips of material (10: 2.5). These four bands will occupy four meters from our perimeter, since their width is 1 m. So, in order to calculate the number of rolls, you need to divide the perimeter by the number of meters covered by one roll of wallpaper: 20/4 = 5. It turns out that we need five rolls of wallpaper.

It is important to know: if the result of the last action is not an integer, round it should be in the big side, even if a tenth of a fraction is small. That is, if it turns out that you need to buy 5.15 rolls, you need to buy 6. Otherwise, these 15 centimeters simply have nothing to seal.

Errors

With our calculation, we used the knowledge of how to calculate the perimeter of the room, but did not take into account other facts - the presence of a door and a window. Therefore, counting how many wallpapers you need to buy, do not forget to reduce them to the necessary number of bands.

Floor covering

To buy flooring, it's also important to know how to calculate the perimeter of a room. The formula is still the same: the sum of the lengths of all sides. At the same time, there is no need to pay attention to doors and windows. It is enough to either measure two adjacent sides and multiply by two, or measure each side of the room and add these numbers.

Calculating the floor covering, knowing the perimeter and length, will not be difficult at all. Often on the sites that sell these most coverings, there are special calculators. They need to enter the length and width of the room, the desired coverage. After that, information will appear on how much material you need to purchase. If we are talking about linoleum, then the variants of its widths correspond to the standard end faces of the room. So buy it, based on the length of the room.

If you buy tiles, parquet or laminate, you need more complex calculations. Probably, for this purpose it is better to take advantage of the help of the managers working in the building shop or the point of sale, where you will buy the cover.

Ceiling covering

This material is calculated similarly to the previous method. If it is a question of tension or suspended ceilings, then it is even simpler - all will be done by specially trained people who come for free measurements before signing an agreement with the company.

As you can see, you should not have any special problems with the calculations. Good luck!
