How to calculate ovulation? All methods in one article

Ovulation is the process of release of the ovum from the ovary to the uterus, where it can meet the sperm and fertilize. That is, ovulation is the period when a woman can become pregnant. How to calculate ovulation? This question interests those women who can not conceive for a long time , and those who want to conceive a child at a certain time of the year. The period before ovulation and, directly, ovulation is the time most favorable for conception. Still this period is called the fertile phase, that is, the phase in which a woman is able to conceive a child.

With the processes in the body everything is clear, but how to determine ovulation for ordinary people? Do not look in the middle of the ovary to watch for a ripe egg? Of course not! To calculate ovulation, there are not one, but several fairly simple methods.

Calendar method

This method involves monitoring your menstrual cycle and counting the days of the beginning and the end of the cycle. The definition of the fertile period is based on the following calculations: the last day of a fertile period is determined by the method of deduction from the longest cycle of 11, and from the shortest - 18. For example, the longest menstrual cycle is 33 days, and the shortest is 29 days. Then subtract 11 (33-11) from the longest cycle, we get 22. From the shortest cycle, subtract 18 (29-18), we get 11. Thus, from 11 to 22 day of the cycle, conception is possible, that is, it is the most favorable period for Pregnancy.

Method of cervical mucus

This method requires observation and careful attention to your body. There are three types of mucus:

- absence of mucus ("dry days")

- Transparent and viscous discharge;

- cloudy, sticky and white slime.

Watch for secretions several times a day, noting the current changes in the calendar or in a special magazine. The last day, when transparent viscous mucus and the next three days are observed and are the most favorable time for conception.

Basal temperature

This method is considered the most basic method to calculate ovulation. Basal temperature is measured in the rectum. This procedure is necessary every morning, without getting out of bed, at about the same time. The obtained data should be recorded in the basal temperature chart, which you can take from a doctor or print on the Internet. According to the curve on the chart, you can determine the date of ovulation.

Normally, with a regular menstrual cycle, the basal temperature in its first half is below 37 degrees, and in the second half, after the onset of ovulation, is above 37 degrees. With the beginning of the new menstrual cycle, the temperature drops again and so every cycle is repeated. Approximately in the middle of the cycle, one or two days before the expected ovulation, a decrease in basal temperature is observed, and on the day of egg release a rise of not less than 0.4 degrees is observed. Based on these data, ovulation can be calculated.

Tests for ovulation

In addition, there is a very simple way to accurately determine the time of onset of ovulation. This can be done using modern tests for ovulation, which can be purchased at the pharmacy. Usually in a standard package there are five tests, which must be done every day until the onset of ovulation. In the instructions for the tests there is a table where each woman, taking into account the duration of the whole cycle, can see from which day she needs to start testing. The day when two red stripes appear on the test, identical in brightness, indicates that ovulation will occur in the next 24 hours.

Ultrasonography

There is also a fairly reliable method for determining ovulation - ultrasound. Using the study, you can determine the time of maturation and release of the egg from the ovary. But this method is not for everyone, but for those to whom the doctor has appointed an ultrasound. Usually, ultrasound is used in cases where a woman can not become pregnant for a long period of time.

Virtually all methods of determining the yield of an egg are based on a regular menstrual cycle. Calculate ovulation with an irregular cycle is quite difficult. Here an experienced specialist can help, which will fix and eliminate the cause of the failure in the cycle.
