How do warm colors and cool colors differ?

Spectrum, which we are accustomed to see, whatever one may say, is divided into warm colors and cool colors. The perception of both is in their name. The first create an atmosphere of comfort, set on a positive and calm mood. The latter look strictly, solemnly, a little aloof. Based on these parameters, in fact, the shades are chosen, with the help of which different rooms are made out, clothes are selected for people of this or that profession, masterpieces of art are created.

How colors are divided

According to the standard scheme, warm colors and cool colors are shades from red to yellow and from blue to green, respectively. It is worth saying that this division is very primitive, since we all know perfectly well that the same pink (it would seem, shade of red) can be both warm and cold. In fact, everything depends on the so-called subtle, which gives the main color a touch of severity or, conversely, makes it softer.

So now let's consider not the warm colors and cool colors, but the corresponding shades, which solve everything. So, a warm spectrum is created: red, ocher and orange. His opposite cold is formed with the help of white, gray, blue, lemon-yellow, black and blue. It is worth noting that in the first case, the most warm sub-ton is ocher, and in the second most "ice" is added to any painting is whiteness.

Illustrative examples

Compare the heat and cold in color can be an example of blue. If you add whitewash, ink or a mixture of them (that is, gray), then the shade will immediately become estranged, gloomy. At the same time, one drop of red or ocher is enough to make the standard blue turn into a bright tone that resembles a clear sky in the middle of spring. Of course, this color will be warm. A similar experiment is conducted with the red. When we add blue, we get lilac, and when mixed with ocher, the color becomes warm, autumnal, slightly golden.

Warm colors and cold colors can be clearly seen in the paintings of famous artists. Aivazovsky's canvas "Calm near the Crimean coast" is written with the help of seemingly cool shades - blue, white, blue and pink. Nevertheless, in the picture indirectly there is a red color, which all the above transforms into warm ones. Closer to the shore the sea gives turquoise, on the horizon line becomes lilac. Of course, there are a lot of cool tones in the picture , but looking at the full composition, you can say with full confidence that this is a warm landscape.

We try to identify the spectrum

A person who is not related to painting, it is sometimes difficult to understand how warm and cold colors are shared among themselves. The table in this case becomes a visual aid, which can be accessed in case of confusion. And in order to learn how to identify the shades yourself, ask yourself: what is more in the picture - white or gold? The answer will be obvious.

Knowing what colors are cold and warm, you can most accurately compose the image of a person. The employee of the bank will be exactly the right tone. Designers, musicians and other representatives of creative professions often choose warm colors in clothes. So they are easier to communicate with, they have their own way to friendship and compromise.
