Horse of breed kiger-mustang: history, character, cost

Kiger-Mustang is not only very beautiful, enduring a breed of horses, but also rare. It is generally accepted that their roots extend from thoroughbred French and Spanish horses.

Kiger-Mustangs are called "wild breed". Each year their population decreases in number, and this is due to the value of meat and the skins of the named horses.

History of occurrence

Historically, it turned out that there was no exact origin from the blood of this breed. It is only known that in the 16th century the Spaniards brought their horses to the territory of America, where their unscheduled mating with horses of other breeds took place. Including with ungulates of French origin.

Horses ran to freedom and multiplied under favorable wild conditions. Thus there was a "wild breed". By the way, the word "mustang" means "feral", "wandering", "wild" or "orphan". As a rule, this term refers to cattle. Hence the name of the breed "kiger-mustang".

Character and temper of the mustang

On the spirit and temper of the horse of the breed kiger-mustang are real legends. Most of the information in them, of course, is exaggerated, since they describe an animal with a rabid character that can not be controlled.

Yes, the character of the mustang is not the most agreeable, it has a bit of stubbornness and savagery, but it is not adamant. Kiger-Mustang has high intellectual abilities, loyalty to the owner and freedom-loving temperament.

It is the perfect horse for riding - very fast and hardy. This feature is associated with the development of the breed, because in the wild, animals had to constantly get their own food and move a lot, which made them so strong.

Life in the wild

For Mustangs it is characteristic to live herds. In the "family" there is always a chapter, both from the males and from the females. Male is called to perform not only reproductive function, but also defensive (if necessary). The female also takes care of the offspring and, in case of danger, leads to the safe place all foals and other mares. This pattern of life and survival is somewhat like a lion's pride.

The main male is elected according to the oldest method, that is, by force. He regularly confirms his status as leader. Most often this adult animal is older than 6 years old, which has experience. All other male representatives must obey him.

With mares, the situation is different. The dominant female is elected according to the principle of fertility. If the circumstances are not the best way and there is no possibility to quickly take the herd to a safe place, the other females surround the foals and the alpha female, thereby protecting them. At the same time, males become croup to the source of danger and thus occupy a defensive position. When the enemy approaches, they will try to strike with their hooves.

External Data

Kiger-Mustang is a horse that does not belong to a large type. Its dimensions are not so great, but thanks to this it is capable of developing a very high speed during the canter.

If we talk about the size, the height at the withers is about 145-150 centimeters, and the mass of the animal does not exceed 350-400 kilograms. Noteworthy is the presence of a very strong back and a powerful neck, this once again characterizes the breed as ideal for riding.

The head of the kiger is large. The ears are not large and not small, pointed at the ends. Nostrils are an outstanding part of the muzzle - quite large.

The color varies, but the main color is a red color of varying intensity. Color may have a gray tint or even stripes on the legs and upper body. Rarely, but there are also black representatives of the breed. The mane of kigers has a dark color, mostly chocolate or black.

How much does a kiger-mustang cost?

In Russia, this breed is not common, but in the US the average price of a kiger-mustang is 1.5-3 thousand dollars, which in translation for our money is about 85-170 thousand rubles for an adult animal.

The cost is justified by the rarity of the breed and a small number, because in all the kiger-mustangs there are no more than 60 thousand, and tame individuals even less.
