How to feed beets for a good harvest

Beetroot is one of the most popular roots of our summer residents. It can be found at almost every site. The plant is not too capricious, but many gardeners, especially beginners, may have a question: how to feed the beet in such a way as to collect as much as possible harvest? In fact, the introduction of fertilizers for this culture is an important matter, since it responds very well to them. In this case, the plant likes organic as well as mineral fertilizers.

So, what to feed beetroot? Preparing the soil for it is worth starting from the autumn. To do this, the area where this crop will be planted in the spring, spread manure, and then dig through the soil. Agronomists consider such an event compulsory. Manure for digging is the main kind of fertilizing this culture. The introduction of fertilizers during the growing season is also necessary. However, in this case, this process is considered additional.

On the question of what to feed beetroot, there is one more answer. Along with the manure in the fall, it is worthwhile to use mineral fertilizers in the area under it . The best choice at the moment will be phosphate-potash. Nitrogen fertilizers, for example, sodium nitrate, are used in the spring, just before planting. Sodium nitrate, by the way - is one of the most preferred top dressings for beets. This culture absorbs a lot of sodium during the growth process. At the same time, you can use boric top dressing. They, like nitrogen, are more often introduced into the soil. But if you want, you can just treat them with seeds.

The feeding of beets during the growing season is also carried out, to a large extent, with mineral fertilizers. Particularly important in this regard is the period from the second half of July to the beginning of August. This is exactly the time when the beets actively develop root crops. In order for them to grow strong and tasty, it is worth to fertilize the beet with ammonium nitrate and superphosphate. The same two types of feeding are sometimes used at the initial stage of growth, but only if there is a visible delay in the development of plants.

It is important not only to know what to feed beetroot, but also how to do it. The roots of this plant, and even if it is weakened, should not be touched. Therefore, fertilizers are applied to the grooves made on both sides of the rows. Their depth should be 4 cm. From the row of beets they are placed at a distance of 7 cm. Superfosphate is introduced into one of the grooves, and nitrate is added to the other. The latter can be substituted for urea in the absence. Further grooves are closed and watered.

In the event that, for whatever reason, you do not want to feed this culture with mineral fertilizers, you can also use ordinary ashes. It is made by the glass per meter of the row. Use this fertilizer at any time during the growing season. A good solution is also the use of bird droppings (1 * 10) or mullein (1 * 8). The rate of application for this is 1 liter per meter of the row.

No less important than top dressing is the watering of beets. This culture is undemanding. However, in order to get the plants all the nutrients they need, water them at least once a week. In this case, the beds are filled very strongly. It is best to use warm water. The frequency of watering should be increased to 3 per week in hot weather.
