Home magic: salt of salt and its application
Salt, so familiar to us, a white mineral with a crystalline structure, used daily for food, is not so simple. With her different peoples have many beliefs and magical rituals.
Excursion to the history
The magic of salt was successfully used by ancient wizards, witches and priests of many countries to fight with evil spirits, scare away werewolves, vampires and ghouls. It was believed that if the consecrated crystals scattered around the house, no evil spirits would approach him. And to destroy the vampire, wounding him and sprinkling the wound with this salt, could be as effective as shooting a silver bullet or stabbing in the heart of an aspen stake.
The so-called salt salt has special magical and even healing abilities, according to popular beliefs.
The Power of Great Thursday
"Special" salt
In some regions, this salt is obtained by consecrating it during the church service. Once it was believed that it was enough for ordinary crystals to lie down a landmark night in the red corner under the icons, and they receive a life-giving, magical power. But the most common rite, in which the salt of salt is obtained, is burning it on fire, purifying it with flame. The main attribute of the ritual was, of course, a Russian stove. Salt, how much it was in the family, was soaked to the state of gruel, then a wet crumb of black bread was added. Instead, it was possible to use the thickening that remained after the kvass was filtered out. The resulting mixture was tied in a bundle of clean rag, usually linen. It could have been replaced by an old lime bast. All this was placed in the oven for heat or carefully covered with ashes and left until the end of the Sabbath or even Easter Sunday. When the package was then pulled out, there was already black salt, calcined with cleaning fire. Mistresses crushed it in mortars, reseeded, salted Easter eggs when they were smashed, and then stored for icons. It was added to the food of the affected family members or to the water of the sick cattle. It was believed that such salt will save at a malefice, and sewn up in an incense and worn on a neck will protect from a bullet in war or the dashing person on road. The shepherds always put a pinch in a rag in his bosom, the first time going with the herd to the pasture. And if the husband and his wife quarreled, the bag of the "chetvertush" under the pillow was to bring in a family of harmony. Similarly, ritual salt, poured into each corner, could save the family from the misfortunes.
