Let's start to list movies about ancient Rome. The list is headed by the historical drama "Agora", shot in 2009 by director A. Amenabar.

The film takes place in the Roman Empire at the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 5th century AD. The territory of which is divided into two parts. The story begins in the city of Alexandria. The 4th century for Rome was marked by the victory of Christianity over paganism, during this century, Christians from religious minorities turned into a dictatorial power organization that subordinated to itself the state.

In those years in Alexandria lived the first known in history female scientist named Hypatia. She was an astronomer, philosopher and mathematician. Many famous men listened to her opinion, and her students later became famous architects, politicians and cultural figures. However, Christians did not approve of such a serious influence on politics on the part of women. The riot of religious fanatics ended with the burning of the Alexandria Library and the death of Hypatia itself.

Pontius Pilate, the Jewish procurator, sends one of his subordinates to verify the rumors that the Jew, who was crucified with other bandits a few days ago, has been resurrected. This news he received from local residents. Pilate did not believe in God, like all the locals. However, they all attended the executions and saw the death of the Messiah. That is why they were so excited by the news of the resurrection, because it meant that God exists.

"The Roman Empire: Augustus"

Many films about Rome tell about the life of emperors who ruled the state for centuries. An example of such a picture is the historical feature film "The Roman Empire: Augustus".

The painting was shot in 2003 by director Roger Young. She tells of the life of Caesar Octavian's grand-nephew, who, having become emperor, received the name Augustus. The time frame of the narrative covers almost the entire life of the hero, from the young age to the death. The plot is built in the form of retrospective jumps, which send the viewer from the present events to the past. The narrative itself is already led by the elderly Augustus, telling the story of her daughter's life.

The film begins with Augustus lying on his deathbed and wearing a death mask. But before that, he pronounces the words to no one addressed, in which he asks whether he played his role well.

She soon marries the emperor and persuades him to adopt Nero. Later, the wife poisoned the emperor, which would give her son the opportunity to seize power.

Claudius, on whose behalf the narrative is conducted, tells of a conspiracy against the emperor Tiberius, of the disputes of Emperor Augustus with his wife, of the bloody rule of Caligula and his subsequent murder, and, finally, of his own life after he received the title of emperor .

"Caligula: 1400 days of terror"

A lot of cruel and crazy emperors knew Rome. The documentary, shot in 2012 by Bruce Kennedy, tells of the reign of Emperor Caligula.

August Gremannik, better known as Caligula, the world did not remember by political successes or great conquests. This man was famous for his vices, among which were cruelty, vindictiveness, perfidy, voluptuousness - there are practically no negative qualities that would not be peculiar to this emperor. Suffice it to say that he strangled in his own bed the old and helpless emperor Tiberius. It is difficult to say whether Caligula was born so cruel or the power received by him at the age of 14 made him that way. But one way or another, 1,400 days of the reign of Augustus Germanicus entered the history of Rome as the worst of times.

Miraculously, Caesar manages to save his family and himself at the hands of his mother. However, before Julius gets power, years will pass.
