History of the Corps of Green Lanterns

This powerful organization has appeared for a very long time. Initially, a distant planet called Malthus was inhabited by a race of incredibly intelligent and noble creatures. Once, because of an annoying mistake, they became the cause of the great evil. To somehow correct the deed, the Maltuseans left their home and settled in the center of the universe on the planet Oa. Here they organized the Corps of Green Lanterns, the task of which was the salvation of all living beings in the Universe.

The founders of the Corps were men from Malthus, but the female half of the inhabitants of the planet negatively reacted to this organization. Therefore, women organized their own Body of Emotional Spectrum, consisting of bold warriors, better known as Star Sapphires.

The sphere of influence of the Green Lantern Corps includes three thousand six hundred sectors of the Universe. Each of these sectors is supervised by a certain Green Lantern. There are about 7,200 members of the Corps, but not all are Green Lanterns.

The source of power of each Lantern is his personal green ring, fed by the will of his bearer. The stronger the hero, the more powerful structures that he creates with the help of the ring of force. The power of this artifact is not limited, it all depends on the imagination of its carrier.

Despite its incredible power, the power ring needs to be constantly recharged from the Green Energy Battery, which is in a small lantern. In this case, you need to pronounce the standard oath. For some members of the Corps, it may differ due to the characteristics of the patrolled sector.

Initially, it was decided to recharge the ring once a day, but due to various unforeseen circumstances, few of the Lanterns adhered to this.

The main enemies of the Lantern Corps

For three billion years of existence, the Corps has faced many adversaries, often being himself guilty of their appearance.

In addition to the Green Lanterns Corps (willpower), there are eight others. These are the Corps of the Blacks (death), the Orange (greed), the Reds (anger and fury), the Blue (hope) and the White (life) Lanterns, and the Cinestro Corps (fear), the Indigo Tribe (compassion) and the Star Sapphires (Love). At different times there was a different relationship between these organizations. Often they fought each other. But periodically they had to unite in the face of a stronger enemy.

One of the most powerful opponents of the Corps of Green Lanterns was Parallax - an incredibly ancient parasitic demonic entity. Being, in fact, pure fear, Parallax for many centuries forced entire races and planets to destroy each other.

Green Lanterns at the cost of incredible efforts managed to defeat this demonic parasite. However, they could not completely destroy it, but simply introduced the essence into a state of suspended animation and hidden inside the Central Force Battery on the planet Oa. Information about this was classified and after a few thousand years everyone forgot about Parallax.

Unfortunately, after millions of years, this monster was destined to break free, and in this, unwittingly, helped him, an Earthman named Hal Jordan.

Life of Hal Jordan before turning into a Green Lantern

Before becoming a Green Lantern, Hal was an ordinary average American. His real name is Harold Hal Jordan. He was born and raised in a huge city called Cost City, California.

Following in the footsteps of the deceased father, the guy also became a military test pilot in the company of Ferris Aircraft. In his spare time, he was fond of boxing, and also communicated with his nephews.

But one day, during the next test of the plane, the life of Hal Jordan has changed irrevocably. He was chosen as a successor to the ring of the power of the dying Green Lantern named Abin Sur.

Abin Sur is the predecessor of Hal Jodan

At one time, Abin Sur was a legendary hero. Originally from the planet Ungar, this character as a Green Lantern managed to accomplish many great deeds and was an example for many young Lanterns.

Several times he visited the Earth and protected her from various threats. But somehow, during the execution of the next assignment, Abin Sur was wounded by enemies and, anticipating death, landed on the nearest planet in order to find a successor and give him his ring. Such a planet was the human Earth.

Initially, the most worthy candidate, the ring Abin Sura recognized Clark Kent, but due to the fact that he was a Kryptonian, the choice fell on a bold earthling named Hal Jordan.

In addition to the ring, Jordan inherited from Abin Sur also the costume of the Green Lantern. Having joined the Corps and learned to control the power of the ring, the new Green Lantern became the curator of Sector 2814, to which his native planet Earth also belonged. Fulfilling the responsibilities of the Green Lantern, Hal hid his identity from virtually all of his relatives and friends, except for Tomas Kalmaki's best friend. And for cover, he continued to work for Ferris Aircraft.

With the advent of the Justice League of America, Jordan also became its active participant. Here, his friend became another superhero of the DC Comics universe - Flash (real name Barry Allen).

One of Hal's mentors in the Corps was Sinestro. However, he considered Jordan unsuitable for such a great mission. During one of his travels, Hal Jordan accidentally found out that on his planet Cinestro had become a cruel tyrant, oppressing his people and demanding to worship himself as a deity.

To help the unfortunate inhabitants, Jordan, risking his freedom, raised an uprising on the planet and overthrew Cinestro. After the incident, the tyrant was forced to leave the Corps of Green Lanterns. To spite his former colleagues, the exile organized its own Sinestro Corps, using the power of fear in its yellow rings. In addition, the villain vowed to take revenge on Hel and after a while he had such an opportunity.

Storyline "Emerald twilight": Jordan's conversion to Paralax

For a long time, Sinestro and his Corps fought with the Green Lanterns. In the end, the villain was able to lock up in the Central Force Battery, where for many millions of years Parallax was. The yellow ring of Sinestro, using the energy of fear as power, helped Parallax to awaken from years of sleep, and the demonic parasite began to look for a new carrier for itself. Wanting to take revenge, Sinestro convinced him that the best for this purpose is suitable for Hal Jordan.

Meanwhile, Cost City was destroyed, and all its residents, including Hal's relatives, were killed. Jordan was unable to cope with grief and tried, with the help of the power of his ring, to restore his native city and revive all its inhabitants.

However, the strength of the Jordan ring was not enough. Moreover, for such arbitrariness the Corps of Green Lanterns sent a group of its representatives to stop and punish Jordan. But the hero was so furious that he destroyed all friends and colleagues who fell on his way.

Also, his victim is also Sinestro (as Hal believed and others, but in reality it was just a ploy of the villain).

Having overcome all obstacles, enters the Central Force Battery to charge the ring and rebuild the hometown of Hal Jordan. Parallax, long waiting for him there, took advantage of the fury of the Green Lantern and mastered his mind and body. Now Hal became the new Parallax.

Being Parallax, Hal Jordan managed to do a lot of evil. However, in the end, his will power was able to cope with the demonic parasite and, saving the Earth, he sacrificed himself and died heroically.

But only the soul of the hero because of everything he did was not accepted in hell or in paradise. So he became master of the spirit of revenge called Spectrum. In this capacity, Jordan was able to finally get rid of the residual influence of Parallax and eventually he was returned to the body - he again became the Green Lantern.

Description of character Hal Jordan

Like most superheroes, successfully hiding under the guise of his personality, Hal's appearance was typical of an American military pilot. He had an athletic build of brown-eyed brunette. Jordan's height did not quite reach two meters (182 cm, according to other sources - 190 cm), however, as well as the weight before the centner (91 kg).

As for character, Hal was always fearless (this is one of the reasons why Abin Sur's ring chose him). In addition, Jordan categorically did not know how to lose. Sensing the proximity of defeat, he was always looking for a way to avoid it, often making unexpected actions for his opponents. So, to stop the destruction of the Earth, Hal sacrificed himself and died, but afterwards he was resurrected.

However, the description of the character of Hal Jordan will be incomplete, if not to mention his shortcomings. First of all, Jordan was extremely emotional for the Green Lantern. Having played on this, Sinestro was able to use Hal for the resurrection of Parallax. Jordan was also characterized by arrogance.

Relations between Jordan and Carol Farris

He was not indifferent to the beautiful floor. He often made fleeting novels, even as a simple pilot. And becoming a superpower owner, did not stop occasionally to indulge this weakness.

However, he was most interested in the leader of his company, Carol Ferris. But only the girl was a strict boss, not allowing thoughts about the novel with the employee. At the same time, the heart of the harsh beauty was given to the hero hiding under the guise of the Green Lantern. In love with the heroic image, Carol did not even suspect that her beloved was right next to her.

Perhaps the relationship between Hal and Carol could have a future, but the Star Sapphires chose her as their queen and, under the influence of hypnosis, was forced to believe that their beloved Green Lantern was her enemy.

After the alleged death of Jordan, Carol married another man, but her family life did not work out. When Hal was resurrected, she quietly divorced, without telling even her lover, and continued to stop all his attempts to start a relationship.

The character of Hal Jordan in film and television

Back in the fifties, DC Comics began filming movies based on their comic books, creating a movie-ready DC. Despite the incredible popularity of Hal Jordan (ranked seventh in the ranking of superheroes), a full-length film about him was filmed only in 2011, although before that he periodically appeared in animated series and individual cartoons. On the screen this image was embodied by the American actor Ryan Reynolds.

The plot of the movie "Green Lantern", although it tells about the transformation of Hal Jordan into the Green Lantern, as well as his struggle with Parallax, at the same time contains a lot of departures from the canon of comic books. As a result, the film barely covered the expenses spent on its creation, and received negative reviews. At the same time, although there are rumors that in 2020 the sequel will be withdrawn, the film will be devoted not only to Hal Jordan, but to the entire Green Lantern Corps.

Recently, a successful TV series about another hero of the DC Comics universe, called "Arrow", was recently extended for the new season. In the comics, the Green Arrow and the Green Lantern have often worked together, but in the television series, while Jordan's hero is not involved. At the same time attentive admirers, nevertheless noticed, how Hal Jordan appeared in "Strela". This happened in the first series of the fourth season, when the main character recalled his stay at Cost City. In the background, someone in green clothes with a badge "Jordan" flashed.

In another television series of this cycle about superheroes, called "Flash", there are also references to Hal Jordan. So, in one of the series it is shown that the main character on the speed dial in the phone under the second number is the name Hal, and, as is known, Flash and Green Lantern are close friends.

Soon two films about the activities of the Justice League, where Hal Jordan is played by Dan Amboiser, should also be released.

Hal Jordan is an amazing hero of the comics universe of DC Comics. His appearance is due to the fact that the series about the Corps of Green Lanterns began to lose its popularity, and the emergence of a new character was to attract the interest of readers, which happened. However, in the mid-nineties, in connection with another crisis, it was decided to replace Jordan with another Green Lantern. In this connection, a story line with Parallax was invented, where, in the final analysis, Hal Jordan was killed. But the readers loved this character so much that, at their urgent requests, Jordan was resurrected and is still one of the main characters in the comic book universe DC.
