Gorodets painting

The significance of the national crafts of Russia for revealing the features of everyday life, the artistic vision of the world, the figurative thinking of the Russian people is very great. The famous urban painting is one of the bright examples of the original creativity of the people.

Gorodets painting. Fishing history

In the middle of the 18th century, the first peasant artels began to appear in Russia, producing simple household utensils, utensils, household items. The most popular products were Donets for spinning wheels and toys, which were carved from wood, decorated with carvings and carried to the fair in the village of Gorodets of Nizhny Novgorod province. One of the main artistic methods of decorating products was inlaid from wood. The cut elements were inserted into the prepared grooves, and a convex original ornament was created on the surface. Later, the elements of the ornament were tinted and colored, and then the complex incrustation was completely replaced by painting. So, on the lower Volga, in the villages with the capacious Russian names Khlebaikha, Boyarskoye, Savino, Koskovo, there was a city fishery, the center of which was the village, and now the town of Gorodets.

Gorodets painting, whose history continued to develop throughout the XIX century, became widely known in the early XX century, when venerable masters organized an artel, which in the Soviet times became a factory of the city's mural, expanding the range of wooden products decorated with characteristic pictorial ornaments. The masters of Gorodets painting painted children's furniture, wall panels, kitchen utensils, caskets, decorative plates and much more.

Typical features of the urban mural

Gorodetskaya painting elements of its simple stories borrowed from rural life. A specific free brush stroke, with characteristic pointed details, something similar to the wooden carving, which they once complemented with color, vividly testify to the origins of this art.

The main attention of Gorodets artists is attracted by genre scenes from rural and urban provincial life: Sunday festivals of the youth, peasant women with harmonies in striped trousers and chrome boots, bright, smart young ladies, like dancing horses and important unkempt horsemen. The images are attracted by their childish naivety, festive theatricality, which is often emphasized by special techniques, for example, drawn on the sides of the picture by a curtain, as if pushed to the audience. Gorodets masters like to depict floral arrangements in the form of interwoven garlands or large rosettes scattered all over the field. The most favorite motifs in painting are the roosters, with belligerently loose tails, and surprisingly graceful dancing horses in the festive harness.

Gorodetsky paintings are characterized by bright juicy colors. The most favorite colors: red, emerald green, black, blue, juicy blue and white. Tint effects are achieved by bleaching the primary colors, which adds an expression pattern. The coloring of the drawing is based on contrast. A bright stylistic device is a white or black contour stroke of individual elements.

Masters of folk crafts draw without preliminary drafts, broadly and juicyly applying strokes one after another at once to the product, using certain, strictly fixed methods of writing. Layer after layer creates a dynamic, bright, unique pattern. Perhaps, this is the main feature of folk art.

The history of the urban fishery continues. Modern masters at the factory in Gorodets create amazing beauty. Many of them are laureates of the Prize. IE Repin, and their products are decorated with museum and exhibition halls. Among the famous urban artists can be called A.E. Konovalova, LF Bespalov, F.N. Kasatov, A.V. Sokolov and others.
