Gorno-Altai botanical garden: where is the history of origin, description

Altai is not just fantastically beautiful forests, mountains, rivers with waterfalls and meadows with medicinal plants. This is the territory where the Gorno-Altai botanical garden is located with a unique collection of medicinal herbs, trees, flowers and bushes. It also introduces the newest technologies of nature management, based on the ethno-traditions of the Altai people. Every year thousands of tourists visit the garden to touch the living nature.

Where is the botanical garden

Some tourists note that it's not difficult to get to the Altai Botanical Garden - the location next to the main highway on the Chuysky tract allows you to easily reach the reserve. So, its territory is located on the tract Pure Meadow (in front of Kamlak village, Shebalinsky district), on the 503rd kilometer of the tract. If you move in a southerly direction, the garden can be found 77 kilometers from Gorno-Altaisk. In addition, on the way to it there is a road sign showing an arrow to the bridge across the Sema river. This sign indicates that after 800 meters there will be a pine forest with a wide terrace of the river, on which the botanical garden is located. Also to the left of the road you can see a colorful poster with detailed information about this research area.

It is worth noting that the location of the Gorno-Altaisk botanical garden near the village of Kamlak is also due to the fact that it is on this territory that there is a national monument of the national importance of Katail-Shishkular-Chisty Lug. The Katun, Sosnovaya and Sema rivers form a kind of natural border with conditions for the formation of biogescenoses. The garden is 60 hectares.

History of the garden

The famous Gorno-Altai Botanical Garden was founded by enthusiasts in 1994 with the aim of preserving and studying the diversity of the flora of the republic, as well as for the further introduction and laying of expositions of endangered, endemic and rare plant species. In 2009, more than 1500 plants of different species, varieties and forms were found in his collection. Employees of the branch annually go on expeditions, during which they carefully explore the far corners of the republic, after which they bring new samples and plant them in the park, trying to get the seed material. On the basis of the garden, seminars, student practices and conferences are held. Joint expeditions are also organized with the representatives of Germany, Ireland, the Czech Republic, China and America.

What you can see while visiting the garden

To tourists, the Altai Botanical Garden of the Altai Republic offers to get acquainted with hundreds of plants of different types, which can often be found only in this territory. On demonstration sites it is allowed to consider Rhodiola rosea, zipiforum odoriferous, thyme creeping, woolly pantherium, rock spurge, Caspian kopeck, Krylov's brahantenum and other species composition.

The park is divided into small original natural areas, representing a complex of plants in Siberia, North America and the Far East. There is also an exposition with medicinal herbs. Only the taiga and alpine forest-steppe zones number up to a thousand cultivated and wild plants.

It is also allowed to spend a holiday in this protected area - you can settle in wooden houses located directly in the garden, or in tents in protected areas. The regime of the botanical garden

In the spring and summer period, the Altai Botanical Gardens are open to visitors from 09:00 to 20:00 without lunch and weekends. In addition, on its basis a volunteer program is being implemented, according to which volunteer groups of 23 years of age are formed. All volunteers are provided with free accommodation and meals. They should daily, except for weekends, weed out for 6 hours of exposure and collect medicinal herbs. The registration fee is 1,200 rubles. Groups are formed as applications are received:

• 10-19 July;
• July 31-August 9.

It is also possible to come by arrangement, outside groups.
