"Subaru Leone": specifications of all generations of the Japanese compact car

The compact car "Subaru Leone", produced in the last century for 23 years, was very popular. Perhaps it would have been produced even after 1994, but it was replaced by the Legacy model. However, this car has a rich history.

Start production

The first generation of "Subaru Leone" saw the light on October 7, in 1971. It was then that the manufacturer released this front-drive coupe. Exactly one year the company followed this concept. And then, from 1972, the model range was expanded with 2- and 4-door sedans. Even the all-wheel drive station wagon started to be produced. He, by the way, became very popular in the US. The main highlight of this model was frameless side windows.

The "Subaru Leone" cars of the first generation were equipped with 1.2- and 1.4-liter carburetor engines. True, the first of the listed engines in 1976 was decided to be excluded from the line. But there were units with a volume of 1.6 liters.

These cars were offered both with "mechanics" (with 4 and 5 speeds), and with a 3-band "automatic". Some models even had drum brakes. True, towards the end of the 1970s they were replaced by disk ones.

Interestingly, in 1977 appeared a 2-seater pickup, which became known under the name BRAT. And it quickly became popular, because it was based on the platform "Subaru Leone".

Release of the 80-ies

The second generation became special. Because these cars were the first to receive a 4-speed automatic transmission with 4WD. In 1981, the world was introduced to the "Subaru Leone", on which liquid hydraulic multi-plate clutch was first used. And it really made an impression. Since this feature allowed to include the all-wheel drive not by carrying the lever, but by pressing the button.

Still there was a new engine "Subaru Leon" in volume of 1.8 l. Thanks to the installation of a turbocharged compressor, it was possible to improve fuel economy. About 100 kilometers in a mixed cycle took about 7 liters. The engine power, by the way, was 82 liters. from. (With "mechanics").

The third generation

In 1984, the model went through a major restyling. It was then that the third, last generation of the car appeared. It's been a long time since the first model was made, the technology has become more perfect. So new powerful engines began to appear. And the details and spare parts of "Subaru Leone" began to make more high-quality and reliable.

The most powerful engine produced 136 horsepower. But there were also engines of 131 and 117 liters. from. At other motors capacity was less than 100 "horses".

Interestingly, North America was not exported models with 1.6-liter engines. All because they were not powerful enough for the local market. But the 1.8-liter, with a multi-port fuel injection and turbocharged supercharging enjoyed there popularity.

The third-generation models were of a completely different level. What was worth the equipment alone! A fully digital instrument panel, onboard and diagnostic computers, air suspension and "cruise" - all this was available in the latest cars. Not surprisingly, they were so in demand.

By the way, now this model can even be found on sale on the ad, if there is a desire. It is worth in our days less than 100 thousand rubles. True, and the investment requires appropriate, since the age of the car is rather big.
