Gaylardia: planting and caring for the colorful chamomile

Gaylardia, planting and care for which are available even to a beginner florist, - an unusually beautiful plant. It can quite compete with such representatives of the family of Compositae, as chrysanthemum, gerbera, sunflower and zinnia.

Gailardia. Planting and care

This plant has large, bright and unusual flowers that retain shape and freshness for a long time. A bush of gaylard with a height of up to seventy centimeters. Dense leaves of lanceolate form form a rosette around the stem. Shoots strongly branch. Inflorescences in the form of baskets up to ten centimeters in diameter. The cut gailardia, the care of which will allow it to be kept in a vase for a long time, will decorate the room and create a bright color accent. Mixed flower beds, curbs, rabatki and Alpine hills will look great, if for them to come up with an effective composition. In order not to create unnecessary difficulties with the combination of different plants, you can take two types, one of which will be gaylard. Planting and caring for this plant are not difficult and are available for gardeners with a wide variety of financial opportunities. The combination with white nivian or asparagus will create a beautiful contrast. And since gaylardia is colorful, this combination will not look monotonous. Also, the plant is well adapted for planting in containers and hanging pots. Not only annuals, but also perennial species make up the genus "gailardia". Planting and caring for them are not very different. Perennial hybrid varieties are especially bright and good - the flowers can be red-brown, orange-yellow, terry or semi-double. They occurred from the crossing of lowland species with awned gaylardia. The latter is a bright perennial, blooming from June to September. Regular cutting will help him to remain lush and dense for many years. After flowering, it is better to remove wilted buds.

How to care for gaylardia

Choose a place for the plant that is well illuminated by the sun, with dry and moderately fertile soil. Additional application of manure and acidification is not required. Gaylardia easily suffers a long break between watering. Reproduce it often vegetatively - by dividing the bush. Hybrid gaylard, seedlings of which are sold in flower markets, will better preserve varietal characteristics if it is propagated by seeds. They are sown in early April on the beds in the greenhouse. In early August, they transplanted - the next year the plant is guaranteed to bloom. Rhizome for vegetative propagation is divided early in the spring - this is facilitated by the fact that gaylardia late blooms. You can also do this in early September, if the autumn in your area is often warm. It is important that the bushes managed to start before the frost. Expanded gailardia needs a garter or supports. Then the bush has a more well-groomed appearance. Summer gaylardiya tolerates, almost without requiring watering, except in the most arid periods. In the period of budding, fertilizing is carried out with mineral fertilizer. To prevent freezing in cold winters, gaylardia should be better covered with peat, humus or spruce needles.
