History

Initially, the team was called "Gay-gel". The name was due to the place (region) of the club's base. The first 10 years of speeches passed without any particular results. In 2005 the club moved to the city of Gabala. From that moment it became known as "Gilan". Such a name was with the holding company that was the owner of the team. And after the club took the name of the city - "Gabala".

"Gabala" (Azerbaijan) is a football club that is subordinate to the "Gilan-Holding" concern. This is the largest structure of the country, uniting more than 300 enterprises and companies. The owner of the holding is the family clan of Heydarovs. Heydarov, Sr. is simultaneously engaged in politics. He is the Minister of Emergency Situations of the country. Heydarov Jr. is responsible for the condition and success of the team, its funding and staffing. In addition to football affairs, the president of the club Tale Heydarov is engaged in enlightenment, publishing, producing activities. In general, this family ranks second in terms of the degree of influence in Azerbaijan.

Way to success

In the national championship "Gabala" took part as a team-participant of the championship of the second division. After winning the competition, she entered the elite of clubs and did not leave the top division until now.

As you know, where money is, there is success. And the owners of the club did not spare money for the breakthrough to the tournament results. And they did not keep themselves waiting. In the 2014/15 season, Russian coach Yuri Semin raises the team to the third place in the national championship and brings it to the national cup final. In the first qualifying round was defeated the Tbilisi "Dynamo". Having conceded in Tbilisi with the score 1: 2, the Azerbaijani club managed to score two unrequited goals in its field. The match ended in a draw 2: 2, which quite satisfied the guests. By the way, at this very time another Azerbaijani club "Garabagh" won with a score of 3: 0 Swiss "Young Boys". And this means that the two teams will represent Azerbaijan in the group stage of the Europa League: "Gabala" and "Garabagh".

In the group tournament LE "Gabala" fought with the teams: "Krasnodar", "Borussia D" and "PAOK". At the end of the group stage it became clear that the beginner club did not have enough experience of performances at a tournament of this level. And yet, two points gained witnessed that "small" teams can compete with club-regulars of European cup battles. The team performed well, it played, but did not suffer, which means that there is reason to be proud of the whole of Azerbaijan. "Gabala" once again demonstrated that with the proper staffing and financial club policy, you can achieve certain, albeit local, results.

Azerbaijan has always been famous for good football players and less often for highly qualified trainers. Therefore, the management of the club sought to attract professionals with a name who have experience in achieving results. At different times, the team worked with Tony Adams, Luis Aragones, Dorinel Munteanu, Yuri Semin, Roman Grigorchuk.

Among the most famous players performing in different years for the Gabala team were Deon Burton, John Collins, Nikola Valentich, Andrei Cristea, Marat Izmailov, Leonardo, Terry Cook, Alexei Gai, and others.

In conclusion, a couple of words about the stadium in the city of Gabala. It goes through the reconstruction stage, which includes updating the lawn, installing two thousand additional plastic chairs, erecting a modern gym, changing rooms, installing an electronic scoreboard. It is planned to build a reserve field with an artificial grass cover.

It should be noted that at present there are works on the construction of a new football arena with the capacity of 13 thousand spectators. In parallel, the construction of a new sports facilities and a football academy is under way.
