Flag of the Earth. Variety of options

The colonization of distant planets and meeting with representatives of other civilizations is still a figment of the imagination of science fiction, but, perhaps, the hour is coming when these pictures will become an objective reality. Whatever it was, but one of the symbols - the flag of the Earth - has already been developed and exists (and not in one version). There will be something to give to aliens as souvenir-pennants at a meeting or - to hoist on a shaft on a newly mastered planet!

Unrecognized official character

But seriously, the idea is good, it unites countries and continents. And in the end, the planet must have its own symbol - the flag of the Earth. Although to this day this idea has not received universal support at the level of states, but exists only at the levels of public organizations and artists and culture. They just proposed to our attention the existing options.

UN unites nations

The flag of this organization, which was approved in the middle of the last century (1946), can be considered as one of the first variants of such a symbol as the flag of the planet Earth. The blue cloth symbolizes peaceful intentions and reminds of the sky or the ocean, and the emblem of white color, located in the center, depicts the continents. This banner has received wide worldwide popularity and can be used as a generalized flag and symbol of the Earth. It is exposed today freely, although there are some restrictions on the use of UN symbols (for example, for commercial purposes) under the law.

The McConnell Flag: the Earth from Space

Among private proposals for the appearance of the planetary symbol was the version of the American figure McConnell in 1969. This flag of the Earth was designed to celebrate the first day of our planet in 1970. It was based on a real photo depicting what the Blue Planet looks like from space. Background - dark blue, reminiscent of the sky. This view of Earth from space on the flag was subsequently replaced by a NASA snapshot (1972). This symbol was originally received a patent (trademark), which was later canceled in connection with the transition of this picture into the public domain. That does not cancel the popularity of this option in the modern world (especially in America).

Flag of Kedla: The Sun, the Earth, the Moon

Another of the most popular images is the so-called flag of Kedla, an American farmer from Illinois, who offered the world community his own version. It shows descending: the Sun, the Earth, the Moon. The sun as a segment of a circle of yellow color, the blue ball of our planet, then - a small white ball of the Moon. The whole design is executed schematically, in a well-harmonious and memorable color scheme. Such a variation caused an agiotage among the participants in the search programs of other civilizations. And in 2003 this flag of the Earth becomes public property in the USA.

Rönhede's offer

Anne Ryonghed in 2000 offered another variation. The cloth is dark blue (but this for many variants is already natural by analogy with the sky, water). In the center of it is a circle of blue color with a patch of white ring. All this a schematic image symbolizes the ideas of peace and cooperation between countries and peoples. And the simplicity of design and ease, availability in manufacturing made this option very popular at one time around the world.

Carroll's Interpretation

The so-called World Flag was proposed by Paul Carroll in 2006 and also has the right to exist. It symbolizes globalization in the modern world. In the center of the work is depicted a map of the world. It is surrounded all over the flag with the flags of all 216 countries recognized at that time and the traditional UN flag.

Plan for Pernefeld

Most recently, in 2015, Oscar Pernefeld, an artist from Sweden, offered the world community this modern design of an international flag that can represent our planet. According to the creator of the image, this symbol will be used in the future in space expeditions and is intended for quite specific purposes:

  • Represent the Blue Planet in space far away.
  • To remind the inhabitants of the Earth that this is our common home, regardless of the borders of states and national belongings, and it must be kept in order and in peace, to care for each other and for the whole planet.

This symbol depicts seven intertwining white rings (reminiscent of parts of the world) forming a geometric figure resembling a flower. A flower is a symbol of life and good. And interweaving is a symbol of the fact that everything in the world is interconnected. The background is dark blue. It symbolizes the water spaces and the importance of the ocean for life on the planet. And this graphic image indirectly reminds the very Earth, flying in space. Such a comprehensive and polysemantic drawing turned out, quite in the spirit of modernity. It remains to add that such a color solution of the flag pursues also aesthetic problems: blue and white are perfectly combined with the clothing of astronauts in the US, contrasting on a white background. In general, all almost without exception, the version of the symbol of the Earth really liked. But again, it has not yet been officially approved at the level of states and international communities.

Results

In general, it should be noted that for all the diversity of the existing options listed above, its officially approved at the global level, the symbol of our planet does not exist. There are only projects, although quite successful. The case for small: to initiate for approval one of these flags, so that the relevant resolutions were adopted and it was with what to fly to conquer the unknown cosmic space!
