Elokom-ointment. Instructions and recommendations

The drug "Elokom", designed to eliminate itching and inflammation with dermatoses of various types, contains the medicinal substance mometasone furoate. The drug has several dosage forms: ointment, cream, lotion.

"Elokom" -meat, the instruction explains it, contains a milligram of mometasone and auxiliary substances: propylene glycol stearate, hexylene glycol, white wax, white petrolatum, water.

Synthetic non-fluorinated glucocorticoid has a strong antipruritic and antiexcadative effect, relieves inflammation. Assume (until the end of this is not established) that Elokom controls the biosynthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, relieve arachidonic acid. However, the mechanism of action of mometasone furoate has not been fully established.

As an ointment from psoriasis, "Elokom" works better if it is applied in the form of applications. In this case, a noticeable effect is manifested as early as the second week of the drug.

Cream "Elokom" differs from the ointment with a lighter consistency. It is absorbed faster, does not dry the skin. The composition of the cream, in addition to the active substance, includes hexyleneglycol, cetyl stearyl ester, octenyl succinate aluminum, phosphoric acid, propylene glycol stearate, stearyl alcohol, cetear-20, titanium dioxide, and other constituents.

Lotion is recommended to treat the affected surface before applying cream or ointment. Sometimes a lotion, which includes isopropyl alcohol, sodium phosphate, hydroxypropylcellulose, is simply rubbed into the affected tissue.

"Elokom" is a ointment, the instruction informs about this, it is not prescribed to nursing and pregnant women, to children under two years old, to people suffering from tuberculosis. It is not indicated in systemic viral infections, fungal diseases, bacterial infections.

Experts recommend not to use ointment without doctor's prescription. This drug can cause complications. There may be itching or burning. Sometimes "Elokom" causes the development of folliculitis, the appearance of acne, paresthesia, hypertrichosis. Sometimes the medicine provokes the development of skin atrophy, perioral or contact allergic dermatitis. It is not excluded also the appearance of maceration of the skin.

An overdose of a medicine can be not only the use of ultra-high doses, but also an excessively long course of treatment. In case of an overdose it is possible to suppress adrenal, pituitary, hypothalamus.

That is why the treatment "Elokomom" should be carried out exclusively under the supervision of a specialist.

Elokom is produced in Belgium and Portugal. Analog ointment "Elokom" produced in other countries.

Most often on sale you can find the ointment "Momat", which is produced in India, "Uniderm", produced in Russia. Analogues include the Ukrainian drug "Mometasone", Russian "Gistan" and "Silkaren", "Avecourt".

All these ointments, just like Elokom, require precautions in use.

So, they are never used to treat eye diseases. Ointment is not applied to the face, inguinal or axillary cavities.

Do not recommend using it under bandages.

Despite the fact that the drug is prescribed for children, it should be remembered that its illiterate application can provoke the development of Cushing's syndrome, atrophic skin changes, and stopping growth.
