Dzhigarkhanyan Theater: reviews, repertoire

Moscow is a city where almost two hundred theaters operate. Among them there are temples of Melpomene, having a long history, and very young. In 1996, a troupe was formed in the capital under the leadership of Armen Djigarkhanyan. "Theater D", as the master called his child, immediately managed to win the hearts of the audience and today is one of the popular cultural institutions of Moscow.

Creativity of Armen Borisovich Dzhigarkhanyan

The theater is primarily a collection of interesting personalities who want to convey their vision of life to the viewer, so the story of the CLM should begin with the creative biography of its creator.

Today it is difficult to find a person who has never seen films with the participation of Armen Dzhigarkhanyan. Arriving in Moscow from Yerevan at the age of 32 and having several film and theater roles behind him, he began to successfully perform on the stages of the capital's theaters. However, the popularity of the actor brought the film work in such famous films as "The New Adventures of the Elusive", "The Meeting Place Can not Be Changed," "Hello, I'm Your Aunt!", "The Dog in the Manger", and many others. In the early 1990s, Armen Borisovich taught at VGIK and in 1996, based on his course, founded the "Theater D".

History

The Dzhigarkhanyan Theater, whose reviews were mostly positive, was initially located on Kooperativnaya Street and had an auditorium for 96 seats. His opening was marked by the premiere of the play based on Shakespeare's play "The Twelfth Night, or As You Want" directed by Krikor Ghazaryan.

For the years of existence in the theater in a literal sense of the word, a galaxy of actors has grown up, which today enjoy the love not only of the capital's theater-goers, but also of viewers all over Russia. This is largely due to the fact that MDT often tours the country and has already visited even in regions located thousands of kilometers from Moscow.

Repertoire

In a short time, a rather extensive repertoire was formed, which included the solo performance "The Last Band of Krapp" with the participation of Armen Dzhigarkhanyan. The theater also became famous for productions of "Little Tragedies" by Pushkin, plays by Moliere, Vampilov and Bulgakov. Among the performances that can be seen in the near future, I would like to note the staging of the play "Russian Jam" by Lyudmila Ulitskaya. The play touches upon the eternal theme of the inability of the Russian intelligentsia to live "outside the window." The spectators who already visited the theater of Dzhigarkhanyan and saw this performance note that during the viewing, it is felt that the characters are characters of Chekhov's plays, somehow miraculously turned out to be in Russia in the 21st century. In MDT one can also see a play about corruption and social defects, which, although it was written 140 years ago, still remains quite relevant today. It is about the play "Wolves and Sheep", which has been on the stage of the theater for many years and invariably gathers complete halls. The production of "Crime and Punishment" is also very popular among spectators, which makes us think about the eternal questions that are still tormenting today's young people.

The company MDT

As already mentioned, the Dzhigarkhanyan Theater was founded on the basis of the VGIK course, which was supervised by the master. Of the "oldest" members of the corpses that have served in the theater since the first years of its foundation, you can call Peter Stupin, Vladimir Kapustin and Elena Fomin. In addition, in different years there were Alexey Shevchenkov, Kirill Pletnev, Ilya Bledny, Nina Zabelinskaya, Stanislav Duzhnikov, Elena Ksenofontova and others. Most of these actors and actresses are not just former students of Djigarkhanyan: the theater created by the master became for them a home and a forge of professional skill.

The play "Nameless Star"

This product of the Romanian playwright M. Sebastian is familiar to many through the well-known adaptation of Mikhail Kozakov, in which Igor Kostolevsky and Anastasia Vertinskaya performed the main roles. It's a touching story about how the monstrous worldly lioness Mona, accustomed to luxury, invades the life of humble Miro teacher from a provincial town. She falls in love with a young man and, after spending the night in his house, declares in the morning that he is going to stay in his shack. However, since "no star can deviate from its path," Mona leaves with her patron Grieg, leaving Miro to suffer from the realization of the unrealizableness of her dream to unite with her beloved.

"The Nameless Star" (Dzhigarkhanyan Theater): reviews

For several years the play, which tells about a chance encounter between Mona and Miro, is on the stage of the Dzhigarkhanyan Theater. The composition of the actors involved in it has changed many times, and today the main roles in it are performed by Maria Kozlova, Alexey Annenkov, Mikhail Zheleznov, Anatoly Kot and Alexey Lapshin. Earlier this performance was called "Mona", and the main character was personified by Elena Ksenofontova. After her departure from the theater, it was decided to make a new production. The scenery was also changed, and so successfully that when spectators are asked if they liked the play "Nameless Star" (the Dzhigarkhanyan Theater), reviews primarily concern the beautiful work of the artist-designer Konstantin Rozanov. The author of the production is the director Dmitry Isachev, who managed to recreate the atmosphere of the provincial town. In the new play, its residents have a special role, and their collective image is key to understanding the tragedy that occurs with the protagonists.

"Theater of the times of Seneca and Nero"

Another performance, which, judging by the opinions of the audience, is of the greatest interest, is devoted to the issues of the relationship between the tyrant and his teacher. It is based on the play "The Theater of the Times of Seneca and Nero" by Edvard Radzinsky and offers a new look at the nature of the cruelty of this Roman emperor. The role of Seneca is performed by Armen Boris himself, and his eloquent silence is called by spectators as the strongest stage in the entire performance. According to some reviews, the play about Nero, which can be seen in the MDT, is not just a story about a sadist breaking people's fates, but a story about a boy deprived of the love of his parents and a devoted teacher whom he trusted unlimitedly.

Children's repertoire

The Dzhigarkhanyan Theater is a great place to enter the art of the younger generation. His repertoire includes several children's performances, such as "All Mice Love Cheese," "The Tales of a Scientist Cat" based on Pushkin's fairy tales, and others.

As for teenagers, they can recommend to watch the play "Thirteenth Star". This is a parable that tells about rabbits forced to take part in races, where the losers are threatened with death. In fact, the creators of the play invite the viewer to think about whether it is worthwhile to step over love and friendship for the sake of saving one's own life.

Ticket prices

Dzhigarkhanyan Theater is visited by people with different social status. Prices for performances there are much lower than in most other metropolitan institutions of this kind. In particular, to watch a children's play (beginning at 12:00), it is enough to pay only 300 rubles, and tickets for "adult" productions cost from 1000 to 1500 rubles. On weekdays, the ticket office of the theater is open from 12:00 to 20:00, and on weekends you can buy tickets from 11:00 to 20:00.

Is it worth to visit the Dzhigarkhanyan Theater? "The Nameless Star", "The Theater of the Times of Seneca and Nero", "Vasa" and other performances, certainly deserve attention.
