Diathesis in an infant: causes and treatment

Diathesis in an infant is a common phenomenon. It is not a separate disease, but only indicates a tendency to allergic reactions, which can be determined by hereditary factors.

Great importance in the emergence of diathesis is the mother's nutrition. When you abuse it during pregnancy with chocolate, citrus or other products that are characterized by an increased sensitizing effect, a newborn baby's risk of allergic skin lesions increases, especially in the face.

Diathesis in an infant may also occur in milk formula or cow's milk in case of artificial feeding. This pathology is manifested by a rash in the form of red scales and seborrhea on the scalp. Diathesis on the face often has a dry form. When the disease passes into the wet form, bubbles appear on the skin. They burst, after which crusts form, the rashes quite itch.

It is worth noting that diathesis in an infant without appropriate treatment can go into more severe lesions of the skin, for example in eczema, which is difficult to treat. In addition, children with diathesis are more likely to get viral diseases and other infections.

To prevent the development of this pathology, it is important not only to monitor the quality of foods that mom uses during lactation, but also the quality of the child's complementary foods. In addition, it is worth paying attention to cosmetics, which are used to care for tender baby skin. So, they should be qualitative and consist only of natural components.

What if parents notice signs of diathesis in their baby?

The first thing to do is to see a doctor. Eruptions on the skin can be a consequence of not only external but also internal factors: metabolic and endocrine pathologies, digestive disorders, hereditary diseases, which are characterized by frequent allergies and insensitivity of individual foods. Self-medication without regard to the etiology of the disease does not give the desired results, but only leads to the transition of skin lesions into heavier forms.

How to treat diathesis in children?

Once the diagnosis is clearly established, the mother who breastfeeds should review her diet and completely eliminate allergenic foods. Pay attention also to the underwear of the child - it should not irritate the baby's skin.

The temperature of the room, in which the baby with diathesis is constantly, is important. So, the air should be cool, because in a hot room the skin of the patients starts to itch more intensively.

It is worth noting that the diathesis in an infant should be treated under the supervision of a doctor, who most often appoints special ointments or talkers. Decrease the itching of the skin of the bath with herbal decoctions. You can use chamomile, mint, string and bark of oak. Children with diathesis can also bathe in a weak solution of calcium permanganate. If necessary, the doctor appoints an enterosorbent to cleanse the body of allergens.

With timely treatment, the signs of diathesis quickly disappear.
