'Dexamethasone' - eye drops

"Dexamethasone" ( eye drops ) has a pronounced anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and anti-exsudative effect.

The medication interacts with specific protein receptors of target tissues and regulates expression in corticoids-dependent genes. Thus, the drug affects protein synthesis. "Dexamethasone" (eye drops) reduces the formation, release and activity of inflammatory mediators (including cinnine, histamine, lysosomal enzymes, prostaglandins).

The drug helps to suppress the migration of cells to the focus of inflammation, reduces the increased vascular permeability in it, as well as vasodilation. "Dexamethasone" (eye drops) has a stabilizing effect on lysosomal enzymes in the leukocyte membranes, suppressing the synthesis of antibodies. The medication disrupts antigen recognition, induces the formation of lipocortin, has a depressing effect on the release of inflammation by eosinophils mediators. This stabilizes the membranes of mast cells. These effects help suppress inflammatory responses in the tissues in response to immune, chemical or mechanical damage.

The duration of the anti-inflammatory effect of the medicine "Dexamethasone" (eye drops) after the administration of one drop of solution is from four to eight hours.

The drug penetrates well into the conjunctiva and the epithelium of the cornea. After administration in aqueous ophthalmic water, a therapeutic concentration is achieved. In cases of damage or inflammation of the mucosa, an increase in penetration rate (penetration) is noted.

The drug is absorbed in the system minimally. About 60-70% of the medicament entering the bloodstream of the system binds to plasma proteins.

Metabolism of the drug is carried out in the liver under the influence of cytochrome-containing enzymes. Derivation of metabolites is performed with feces.

"Dexamethasone" drops are indicated for non-nasal and allergic conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, not accompanied by epithelial damage, blepharitis, scleritis, episcleritis, uveitis, chorioretinitis, blefaconuncivitis. The medication is also prescribed for neuritis of the optic nerve, sympathetic ophthalmia, and also as a treatment and prevention of inflammation in the postoperative period and after trauma.

For adults with inflammations of an acute nature, the dosing regimen is 1-2 drops from four to five times a day for two days, then the medication is used 1-2 drops up to four times a day for four or six days.

The maximum duration of drug use is six weeks.

In allergic eye diseases, the medication is taken 1-2 drops to five times two days. Further, the drug is phased out over a period of one or two weeks.

For the prevention and treatment of eyeball damage after surgery (antiglaucoma filtering operation) or eye drop injuries, "Dexamethasone" is used on the day of surgery or the day after surgery.

After the cataract extraction, interventions for retinal detachment, as well as after injuries, the medication begins to be applied from the eighth day.

In childhood (from six to twelve years old) in the treatment of inflammatory and allergic conditions, the drug is administered drop by drop to three times a day. The duration of the course is from seven to ten days. If necessary, the use of the medication can be continued after a fluorescein test on the tenth day.

As practice shows, the drug is tolerated by patients, in general, well. However, in some cases, side effects may occur. Therefore, the drug, especially with cataracts, should be used under the supervision of a doctor and strictly observing the instructions.
