The beginning of history

"Detroit" - a hockey club, serving in the NHL, one of the veterans and grandees of the League. The home arena and team base are located in Detroit, Michigan. 11-time winner of the Stanley Cup, one of the members of the so-called "Original Six".

The foundation year of the club is 1926th, after it was included in the NHL championship. Initially, it was called "Detroit Cougars", as the team consisted almost entirely of hockey players "Victoria Cougar" from the ZHL. His debut season Michigan, to put it mildly, failed - they were the last in the final table and lost 80 000 dollars.

The owners of the team decided to make changes and invited a new coach - Jack Adams, but it did not help either. During the first seven years of existence, the team did not achieve serious results. In 1930, the club was renamed the Detroit Falcons. In 1932, the team changed its owner, and it was again renamed - now in the Detroit Red Wings. Two years later, the club for the first time achieved serious results - became a finalist of the Stanley Cup, where in the final match lost "Chicago".

Way to the tops

In the season 1936/37, after several successful acquisitions in the line of attack, the club became the first in the championship and for the first time won the Stanley Cup. The following year, "Wings" repeated the achievement and became the first American club that won the Cup in two seasons in a row. During the war, the team showed a strong and stable game, but only once - in 1943 - won the most honorable award of the NHL.

From 1948 to 1955, Detroit was a hockey club that won the main trophy four times (1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955). One of the "smiths" of the team's success was the legendary goalkeeper Terry Savchuk. He became the visiting card of the hockey club "Detroit". Games with his participation came to watch thousands of fans.

Failures and failures

The next decade was one of the worst in the history of the club - "Wings" constantly occupied low places at the end of the championship and rarely went into the playoffs. Frequent changes of coaches did not bring results, and until 1986, "Detroit" - a hockey club that only four times went to the final stage of the Stanley Cup.

But this insulting state of affairs did not suit neither the leadership of the club, nor the fans, nor the players themselves.

The long-awaited Stanley Cup

Only in the early 90's the team began to show competitive hockey. After several successful acquisitions, in 1995, "Wings" reached the final of the Stanley Cup, but lost to "New Jersey". Two years later, however, managed to return the Cup to Detroit, after the final was defeated "Philadelphia". In 1998, the Stanley Cup was conquered for the 9th time. In 3 years, in the season 2000/2001, "Wings" became 10-fold owners of the trophy.

It was then that the Russian striker "lit up" - Pavel Datsyuk. The next few years, the team was constantly fighting for high positions. Phenomenal game showed Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Lidström and Pavel Datsyuk.

XXI century - hockey club "Detroit"

"Detroit Red Wings" and today occupies one of the highest places in the NHL rating. The eleventh, and the last at the moment, the Stanley Cup submitted to the Wings in 2008, after winning the dramatic final series with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Next year, also the finalists were "Wings" and "Penguins", but this time won the Pittsburgh.
